Goldman Sachs Case Study MGMT 2020 Professor Siravo December 16, 2017 Isaiah Johnson

1 If you were working in a company that struggled through a crisis like Goldman’s, how exactly would that experience harm your organizational commitment? Would the impact be felt most intensely with affective, continuance, or normative commitment? I feel that this experience that Goldman’s went through would possibly harm rating agencies confidence, lower customer’s confidence, and also ruin the reputation about the company for the upcoming potential filled graduates. The impact would be felt most intensely with the continuance commitment because they all struggled to get each other through this crisis.

2 Are there ways in which such a crisis could strengthen your organizational commitment? Which form (or forms) would be strengthened? Since this company went through this crisis, the had to build a cultural environment to push one another. Employees had to feel that they wanted to be there in order to be successful as a company and get work done efficiently. When it is a collaborative work environment, people are bound to have creative ideas and motivate employees that can sometimes make processes difficult. Affective commitment would be strengthened because it would give them desire to want to grow with the company.

3 How sensitive do you think you are to corporate image, whether when applying for jobs or staying with an employer? Do you think image advertising is capable of helping with these sorts of issues? Why or why not? I feel that I am pretty sensitive to corporate image due to the fact I would not want to work for an organization that does not match my intentions. When applying for jobs, companies should present themselves as organized and professional. If their image advertising is off, there are some people that will turn away opportunities because they feel the business isn’t trustworthy....
