Description

Last-minute plan for GRE Ok. In case you are time-constrained, say 1 month, and you are looking for a competitive score like +300/346, (+ means higher than) The three general information you have to know about GRE: 1. The test is section "adaptive", not question-by-question adaptive, the second half of the exam depends on your answers in the first half, don't be happy when u get easy one after the break! 2. The test is "percentile-scaled", it means your percentage is actually based on the scores of all examinees who tested within the time period (you don't solely depend on your own answers but others too, you get compared to others, this measures the difficulty of exam). 3. For highly ranked institutions (top 100), I think the good-enough score starts from ~ 315. However, I see 300 got admitted but +100 in TOEFL. Your major determines which section you gotta do your best in, quantitative for engineering/science students, verbal/writing for arts/social/language students. Anyhow, I would suggest you the following: 1. The plan: One month plan, with 8 hours daily time slot. I.

II.

III.

The main focus will be on the quantitative part which is something like mathematics and little engineering, this part is kinda easy and most guaranteed to get high score (possibly you can get 160/170), you may need to spend 4 hrs from the 8 hrs daily slot. The verbal part is the most challenging. It's divided into two types of questions; vocabulary and reading comprehension paragraphs: a. The vocabs are somehow weird and challengeable, you gonna get ready to it by memorizing at least +500 common GRE words. b. The reading comprehensive are kind of very short and summed up paragraphs, no enough time, just scan and skim, then shot your answer in seconds. So don't waste too much time on this part, just try to save your exam-day on it. It would be fine if you score 140-155 out of 170, you have to dedicate 2 hrs out of the 8 hrs daily slot for this part. The writing part is somehow easy and you possibly can get 3.5-4 out of 6, you may dedicate the remaining 2 hr out of the 8 hrs daily time slot. In the case you took TOEFL or IELTS, the GRE task is very similar to the essay writing part. However, it needs more specific vocabs or sentences to implement in the essay. In my opinion, If you are going to take TOEFL and GRE, The common issue in writing is that you probably waste long time in studying without significant improvement. I think the best way to tackle it would be sending your essays to a tutor, he just highlights your common mistakes and guide you with some tactics in building correct sentences, you probable find your score amazingly get improved!

Summing up, you are in average qualified to get +305 in total. 2. The materials: In case you're limited in time and you gonna put much efforts, I would suggest: - Only study the official ETS books (Different versions).+ Green Light YouTube channel https://drive.google.com/folderview? id=0By9jKmOK17EVb0JJZW8zRE8zb00&tid=0By9jKmOK17EVZmxsZ1BBX2J3enM&us p=sharing https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I0rz-OgI7Ew - Avoid wasting time on something else like Barron or Magoosh or any other external resources. - There are bunches of GRE resources out there, please avoid wasting time swimming over all of this . Don't even look for or review them. You don't need all of this, no time. Just focus on the ETS official GRE books. - Only the verbal part can be reviewed from Barron 1000 words or Magoosh vocabulary flash cards (Magoosh app is free downloadable for ios or android). https://gre.magoosh.com/flashcards/vocabulary - By booking the test, ETS provides you with two demo online Tests. They are very similar to the real test, and must-do task. Study and review them more than once. https://www.ets.org/gre/revised_general/prepare/ - To familiarize yourself more with the test, download these softwares that provide virtual GRE test and imitate the real one. - http://www.majortests.com/gre/quantitative_comparisons.php - If you have more time, then study Manhattan preparation https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B_l0Dbuo0Fm2bGZtMFZGYXhyMmM&usp=sharing
