How Disability is Portrayed in Harvie Krumpet Harvie Krumpet (2003) is an Academy Award-winning (best animated short) animation, directed by Adam Elliot. Upon release, the film captured the public’s imagination through the narrative’s depiction of a Polish citizens’ migration to Australia as a young boy and various challenges he faced as a disabled individual. Throughout the film, protagonist Harvie Krumpet is diagnosed with Tourette’s syndrome, stricken with lightning and develops testicular cancer. The sigma which Krumpet encounters is a social reality, which most people may shy away from facing, but will inevitably effect the self-esteem and quality-of-life of those who must live possessing an atypical physical or mental state (Lindsay and Edwards, 2013). The way the boy, fraught with eccentricity and disorder, is regarded by the general community is not exceptional, it is society's propensity to discriminate; thus the greatest lesson within Harvey Krumpert concerns perseverance and strength of character.
