HPE 340: Exercise Biomechanics INTRODUCTION TO KINOVEA
IN CLASS TUTORIAL 1 Introduction to Kinovea Objectives 1. Understand the basic processes of video analysis using the Kinovea software 2. Use of the array of analysis tools available in Kinovea for movement analysis Background Quantitative and qualitative biomechanical analysis of human is greatly enhanced with the application of video analysis. The Kinovea software allows quantification of an array of biomechanical variables that can be used in the analysis of human movement performance. Run through the following steps in order to familiarise yourself with the Kinovea software. Practical work Video setup
Open the Kinovea software from the programs menu; Download the video “Golf guy.avi” from Blackboard Click and drag the video into Kinovea Deinterlace the video; Image→Deinterlace Set the video working zone from the first frame that the club head moves to the last frame the club head moves
Lock the working zone;
Video synchronisation Click on the two play back screens button; Download the video “Golf girl.avi” from Blackboard Click and drag the video into the right hand screen Deinterlace the video; Image→Deinterlace Set the video working zone from the first frame that the club head moves to the last frame the club head moves Lock the working zone Use the time sliders to set the guy and girl videos to the frame closest to ball impact
Synchronise the videos;
Overlay the videos; , Playback the videos at half speed; Congratulate yourself for being so clever and tell other people to hurry up

*Right clicking on drawings in videos shows more functions. In groups of three use the analysis tools to answer the following questions; 1. Who has the longer backswing time and by how much? 2. How much time passes after the girl starts her backswing, before the guy does? 3. Create three key images for the girl and create a title for each image, throughout her swing. 4. What is the angle between golf guy’s club and arm at the end of the backswing? 5. Use the drawing tools to create a Mr Squiggle like interpretation of the video. Save as an image....
