IHP 200 Mini Case Study One Worksheet Patient S is a white woman, 43 years of age, and a mother of three small children. She has a long-standing history of significant obesity with little success in dieting over the years. At 5'3", she is obese, weighing 220 pounds. Her fat distribution is “apple-shaped” and, consequently, her waist-hip ratio is more than the 0.8 normal range. In addition, Patient S lives a fairly sedentary lifestyle and does not have a regular exercise program. Her dietary habits do not take into account basic recommendations for cardiac nutrition. Address the following questions:

What risk factors are present?

Pamela is overweight which can cause a lot of risk factors. Seeing that she has a lot going on at home and does not exercise as well as her diet. This puts her at risk for coronary artery disease, heart attack, diabetes along with depression. Pamela can also have issues with her breathing such as asthma and COPD.

Some changes that Pamela can make the immediate change that could be the most beneficial is exercising. This will allow the blood to move more freely and aid in weight loss. Maintaining healthy diet will help aid the weight loss with the What are some ways that the individual could change exercise. The biggest thing is she needs to get moving. her choices and behavior in ways that will mitigate her risk factors?

If the individual mitigates her risk factors, what positive changes could occur regarding her health?

By exercising and eating healthy this will help with weight loss. Losing weight will decrease her risk tremendously. Also she can have a more positive outlook on life and be happy and not become depressed.

If you were the individual’s health coach, what would you tell her about her health condition?

The negative effects that can occur are heart attack which if not treated in time can lead to her death, Other effects could be becoming diabetic and if diet is not addressed she could have more complications such as having necrosis and possibly an amputation.

I would advise her that living a healthy lifestyle is the best thing for her and her children. She has 3 children that need their mother. The need her to be present in the moments and happy. Making these changes now will increase her chance of not having any further risk or complications....
