ABOUT IIM CALCUTTA The Indian Institute of Management Calcutta (IIMC) was established as the first national institute for Post-Graduate studies and Research in Management by the Government of India in November 1961 in collaboration with Alfred P. Sloan School of Management (MIT), the Government of West Bengal, The Ford Foundation and Indian industry. During its initial years, several prominent faculty formed part of its nucleus, including Jagdish Sheth, J. K. Sengupta, among others. Logistics and Supply Chain Management

This module will offer a highly structured and robust approach to decision making in supply chains. State-of-the-art analytical models will be combined with interactive discussions and contemporary cases to introduce participants to basic philosophy, important concepts and best practices in Supply Chain Management (SCM). Discussions on crossfunctional issues will broaden the perspective and add to the rigor of the module. Special emphasis will be given to supply chain issues in the MENA region.

Enterprises are becoming increasingly global, with operations spanning oceans and continents. To navigate the global marketplace, managers need to know how to plan the most efficient use of material resources, as well as manage more complicated global networks and optimize service and quality. This module will draw on practical issues confronting companies today to provide a strategic framework for making major decisions to increase competitive advantage. Participants will learn novel approaches to operations strategy that are developed at world’s leading academic institutions based on best-practice research conducted among the world’s leading companies.

The demand for conceptualization, development and implementation of projects and the use of project management principles and concepts are ever increasing. With more and more organizations shifting to “mission mode” operations, the skills for completing these tasks within specified time and cost limits are on the rise. The non-repetitive, irreversible nature of these activities and huge capital investment makes the knowledge of scientific and advanced skills mandatory for proper management of projects. The module aims at exposing the participants to the concepts of project management emphasizing the life cycle of projects beginning with the conceptualization, definition, design, development, implementation, risk management and control of projects.

Supply chains are complex networks involving multiple entities and organizations with different goals and objectives spread across different counters. Many different analytical methods and techniques are used to better design and manage the complexities in a supply chains. This module will expose participants to different methods and tools that are used to model and analyse supply chains and the associated uncertainties. Predictive and prescriptive modelling tools will be covered through a hands-on approach where participants will use spreadsheets extensively to analyse case studies drawn from actual supply chains.

THE PROGRAMME DIRECTORS Krishanu Rakshit Krishanu belongs to the Marketing group at IIM Calcutta. He has been a visiting scholar at many national and international institutes of repute. His corporate experience includes stints at Coca Cola India and Tata Motors Limited as well as managing an Engineering Consulting business. An Engineering graduate, he had completed his PGDM (MBA) from IIM Bangalore. He is also a Fellow from IIM Bangalore and his doctoral dissertation was in the area of consumer behaviour and pricing. He has worked with several consulting and market research firms in Europe in the areas of consumer goods and information services. He has also advised several public sector firms for their ‘going-to-market” and branding initiatives. His current research interests include marketing orientation among public sector organisations, pricing and branding issues in consumer and industrial markets.

Preetam Basu Preetam Basu is an Associate Professor in the Operations Management Group of IIM Calcutta. He joined the institute in June 2010. He has a doctorate degree in Operations Management from University of Connecticut, USA. Earlier, he did his MS in Applied Mathematics from University of Minnesota, USA. His doctoral thesis focused on business problems at the interface of operations and finance. He has published articles on project management, risk management and supply chain management in various international journals and presented his work at numerous prestigious international conferences. His research and teaching interests include project management, supply chain management, risk management and revenue management. He has taught in various corporate training programmes for different organizations such as IOCL, HPCL, ONGC, Tata Steel, L&T.

OTHER FACULTY PROFILES IN BRIEF: Anindya Sen

holds a Ph. D from University of Southern California, USA. Currently, he is Professor at the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta (IIMC). At IIMC, he has held the positions of Dean (Programme Initiatives) and Dean (Academic). He has also acted as the Director in-Charge, Indian Institute of Management Ranchi for more than two years. He was earlier Visiting Professor at School of Business and Management, American University of Armenia and at Department of Economics, University of Notre Dame, USA. He was also Professor at Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research, Mumbai, India. He is currently editing two series for Routledge India. His fields of interest are: Industrial Organization, Theory of the Firm, Regulation, Law and Economics and Strategic Management.

Leena Chatterjee completed her Graduation and Masters in Psychology from Delhi University and her Ph. D in Organizational Psychology from I.I.T Kanpur. She joined the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta in 1984 and is currently a Professor in the Organizational Behaviour Area. She teaches courses on understanding people, interpersonal relationships communication and group dynamics in organizations at the Institute. She was presented the “Best Teacher Award” by the Institute’s students and alumni over several years. She has undertaken numerous consultancy and in-company training assignments for public and private sector organizations as well as international aid organizations. She also offers a number of Management Development Programmes on Leadership and Team Building, Managerial Effectiveness and Interpersonal Communication at IIM Calcutta every year. Her research interests and publications are in the areas of the psychological and organizational consequences of downsizing, entrepreneurship, career choice and career management and understanding the impact of culture on the development of the self-concept.

Ashok Banerjee joined the Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta as Professor (Finance and Control) in August 2004. Prior to joining IIMC, he was a professor at IIM-Lucknow. He was the Dean (New Initiatives and external Relations) of IIM Calcutta during 2012-2015. He is a Postgraduate in Commerce from University of Calcutta and a qualified Chartered Accountant. He obtained his Ph.D. for his research on Economic Value Added as a Performance Measure. Apart from teaching Corporate Finance, Corporate Restructuring, Trading Strategies and Business Valuation for MBA students, he also teaches Empirical Finance and Corporate Finance in the Doctoral programme. He teaches a unique course in the business analytics programme titled ‘High Frequency Finance and News Analytics’. Prof. Banerjee is currently the faculty-in-charge of the Financial Research and Trading Laboratory of IIM Calcutta and was instrumental in setting up an Incubator at IIM Calcutta called IIM Calcutta Innovation Park, which is duly recognized by the Department of Science & Technology (DST) as a Technology Business Incubator. His current areas of research include high frequency finance and sentiment analysis, as well as studying the behaviour of algorithmic traders in intraday markets.

Debashis Saha [BE (JU), MTech (IIT-KGP), PhD (IIT-KGP)], a Full Professor in the MIS area, has been teaching IT for more than 25 years for Managers, Team Leaders, and Senior Executives. He also has the experience of providing consultancy to several Indian firms on their transformational IT projects. His research interests include IT strategy and governance, Emerging IT paradigms, Digital Disruption, Business Transformation, and Business-driven IT. He has authored several research papers, books/monographs, book chapters, and case studies in national and international journals, and delivered several thought-leadership lectures in leading organizations/ universities in USA, Japan, Singapore, Korea, China, Australia, Sweden, Singapore and Taiwan, on their invitation.

Runa Sarkar is a Professor with the Economics Group at the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta. Prior to this, she taught at IIT Kanpur. A chemical engineer from BITS Pilani, Runa pursued her Masters in environmental engineering at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, USA. After working as an environmental consultant for a while, Runa completed her doctoral studies from IIM Calcutta. In addition to journal and conference papers, she has authored a book, Environment, Business, Institutions (Oxford), and co-authored two others, Another Development: Participation, Empowerment and Well-being (Routledge) and Economics of Sustainable Development (Business Expert Press). Runa has also co-edited the India Infrastructure Report (IIR) 2010 on Infrastructure Development in a Low Carbon Economy (Oxford) and IIR 2009 on Land – A Critical Resource for Infrastructure (Oxford), and a book, Essays on Sustainability and Management: Emerging Perspectives (Springer). Rajiv Kumar has earned his PhD in Organizational Behavior from IIM Ahmedabad. He has worked for an NGO and an international HR consulting firm before joining academia. He has been with IIM Calcutta for a decade. In his role as an educator and researcher, he focuses on human behavior at workplace. He strives to enhance personal, interpersonal and team effectiveness through his classes. He has designed and delivered a number of executive education programs in traditional as well as online format.

Sumanta Basu is an Associate Professor of Operations Management at Indian Institute of Management Calcutta. He has joined IIM Calcutta in 2010 in Operations Management group. He holds a doctoral degree in Production and Quantitative Methods from Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad. Prior joining to IIM Calcutta, he was in XLRI, Jamshedpur as a faculty member and was in product management group of Wipro Technologies. He also worked as a process engineer in a petrochemical complex for more than three years after completing his graduation in Chemical Engineering. His primary research interests are in operations and supply chain management, data analytics, risk management and uncertainty, pricing and revenue management etc. He holds multiple US patents in process efficiency enhancement and has academic publications in various journals. He is also actively involved in various consultancy and academic projects spanning various areas of operations management and operations research.

Debabrata Ghosh is currently an Assistant Professor with the MIT Global SCALE Network center – the Malaysia Institute for Supply Chain Innovation. He has over 7 years of professional and academic experience. He is currently on leave from the Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta where he is an Assistant Professor of operations and supply chain. His research interest is in the area of logistics, supply chain management, supply chain coordination, contract design and sustainable operations.

Tanika is an Assistant Professor at the Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta. Formerly, she worked at DIW, Berlin, and at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, after completing her PhD in Economics from Washington University, St Louis. She is a Fellow at Institute for the Study of Labor (IZA), Bonn, and the Global Labor Organization. Her specialization includes econometrics and its application in policy evaluation and business data analysis. She has researched extensively in the area of applied microeconomics, particularly labor (human resources) and development economics.

Vipul Mathur is a faculty of economics at the Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta. His academic interests span macroeconomic theory and policy, monetary economics and financial markets. His published research attempts to investigate the implications of a financial inclusion on monetary policy transmission in a general equilibrium setting. Additionally, he is also researches in examining the interplay between banking penetration, credit misallocation and economic growth. At IIM Calcutta, he teaches a graduate-level course in Macroeconomics and a doctoral-level course in General Equilibrium modelling. He has also been a visiting faculty at IIM Amritsar. In addition to the academic world, he has also worked in the financial sector, specifically in the fixed income and currency trading desks. Prior to his doctorate in economics from the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore, he earned a graduate degree from the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi.
