Description

Individual and societal influences of single-parent homes According to Marnie Kunz, children who live in single parent households have less financial and educational advantages. The effects of a single parent home can impact the child’s behavior and academics. Kunz, M. (2015). Children perform poorly in school because the single parent has work long hours, which can lead to less guidance and homework help for the child. Kunz, M. (2015). Living in a single parent household can have negative effects on the child’s emotions as well. These effects include low self-esteem, increased outbursts of anger, and an increased risk for violent acts. Kunz, M. (2015). A child may also feel abandoned, sad, lonely, and may have issues with social relationships. Kunz, M. (2015). Children who grow up with both parents get the emotional support they need. Two parent families play an important role in developing the social well-being of their children and of the society. McCammon, S. (2013). There are some positive effects on children who live with a single parent. Children living with single parents may show strong responsibility skills; meaning that the child is more likely to be called upon to help out with chores. These children also have a greater bond with the parent and become more dependent on each other. Kunz, M. (2015).
