Invention of Telephone

Project Due Date: 11/12/2020

My Invention: Telephone

Who  Who is responsible for inventing the invention? Alexander Graham Bell is responsible for inventing the telephone.  What was the background of the person or people who invented the device? Alexander Graham Bell was a Scottish-born American inventor and scientist. Bell was born on March 3, 1847, in Edinburgh, Scotland. In 1870 Bell and his family emigrated to Canada. A year later Bell moved to the United States, where he taught speech to deaf students.  Did more than one person claim to be the inventor of the device? Antonio Meucci, Amos Dolbear, John Peirce, and Charles A. Cheever had a very important role in inventing the telephone. Thomas Watson, the assistant of Graham, helped Alexander Graham Bell with the invention of telephone as well.  If a group of people invented the device, what can you fnd out about each of the people, or institutions credited with the invention? Antonio Santi Giuseppe Meucci was an Italian inventor and an associate of Giuseppe Garibaldi, a major political figure in the history of Italy. Meucci is best known for developing a voicecommunication apparatus that several sources credit as the first telephone. Amos Emerson Dolbear was an American physicist and inventor. Dolbear researched electrical spark conversion into sound waves and electrical impulses. He was a professor at University of Kentucky in Lexington from 1868 until 1874. Charles A. Cheever was an American businessman and inventor. Associated with Alexander Graham Bell and Thomas Edison, he improved their inventions. He patented 100 of these improvements, most related to the telephone. John Peirce was an American professor of chemistry, a scientist and an inventor. He participated in the development of the telephone.

Why and What

** Some inventions will allow you to separate these into two sections because the original purpose of the invention is different from what it is used for today. You may keep these two sections separate or blend the two.  Why did the inventor invent this device/ what was its purpose? The telephone came about because inventors were trying to improve the capabilities of the telegraph and to facilitate human communication. Telephone was designed for the simultaneous transmission and reception of the human voice. The telephone is inexpensive, is simple to operate, and offers its users an immediate, personal type of communication that cannot be obtained through any other medium  What events led to the invention? Thomas A. Watson, one of Bell's assistants, was trying to reactivate a telegraph transmitter. Hearing the sound, Bell believed that he could solve the problem of sending a human voice over a wire. He figured out how to transmit a simple current first and received a patent for that invention on March 7, 1876. Has the intended purpose of the invention changed since it was originally invented? If so, how has the purpose of the invention changed? Over many years, the modern version of the telephone makes the one that Bell invented look like a piece of junk. Developments in tone dialing, call tracing, music on hold, and electronic ringers have greatly changed the telephone.  What was the invention used for? Telephone was used for the simultaneous transmission and reception of the human voice.  Is the invention still being used today? The telephone today has evolved extraordinarily since Bell first invented it in 1876. Telephones today are now portable with the introduction of mobile phones around 30 years ago.  How has the invention changed over time? Over many years, the modern version of the telephone makes the one that Bell invented look like a piece of junk. Developments in tone dialing, call tracing, music on hold, and electronic ringers have greatly changed the telephone.  What impact did the invention have on other industries? The telephone had a huge impact on the communication during the industrial revolution because it lets you communicate much faster, lets you communicate with people in different countries and helps reduce many misunderstandings which lead to bad outcomes.

Where  Where was the invention invented, and where is it used today? The telephone was invented in the lab of Bell, in United States. And Today there are cell phones, which do not need wires. They use signals that travel through the air, carried by systems that depend on the science of physics. Many people now do not have a landline anymore, and just depend on their cell phone.  Where has the invention been used throughout history? Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone in 1876. His first call was to Thomas Watson. The message? "Mr. Watson, come here. I want to see you." With this first message began a whole world of communication. The USSR-US Hotline was established in 1963, during the Cold War. This was a direct line that ran between the leaders of the United States and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. The idea was that a direct telephone line would help to "lessen the threat of an accidental nuclear war." In 1969, President Nixon called Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin. He was in America; they were on the moon. Find a transcript of that conversation here.

When  When was the invention invented? The telephone was invented in 1876.  Was the development a long process of did it happen at one time? Bell began his research in 1874 and had financial backers who gave him the best business plan for bringing it to market. In 1877-78, the first telephone line was constructed, the first switchboard was created, and the first telephone exchange was in operation. Three years later, almost 49,000 telephones were in use.  What year or years was a patent issued/ renewed? February 14, 1876.

How  How has this invention had an impact on your life and society? The telephone had a large impact, it made business more efficient and it saved money from having to travel back and forth from far places, and it made transactions able to occur more quickly. It led to instant communications around the world and even led to the Internet....
