Narrative Essay

I have the privilege to interview Doris Gray, Clinical Nurse Manager of the Surgery department at Culpeper Hospital. She is also known as a “superuser” for many departments throughout the hospital. A superuser is someone form the healthcare setting that also is talented or educated in the use of technology and can assist in bridge the gap between the clinical side and IT departments. Ms. Gray has been with the hospital for 30 years and has witnessed the emerging of technology and healthcare increase. From the development of online scheduling, Electronic medical records (EMR), MyChart, to telehealth and robotic assistive devices. I have to say I was intrigued by all of it. The Da Vinci has been around for decades but is quite expensive and so many hospitals are unable to utilize such innovation. In my conversation with Ms. Gray, I became excited about integrating technology and healthcare, the possibilities are truly endless. Technology is always growing, and health care should grow along with it. I believe that with collaboration, healthcare as a whole can become

more efficient, have increased safety, promote patient self-management, decreased readmissions, and overall patient outcome and satisfaction surge....
