Description

Nursing informatics is a system that nurses use in the healthcare system. Nursing informatics is defined as, “a specialty that integrates nursing science, computer science, and information science to manage and communicate data, information, knowledge, and wisdom in nursing practice”[ CITATION McG16 \l 1033 ]. Nursing Informatics ensures that the actual reflection of all health care workers is to provide patient-centered care. Performing a finger stick on a restless and diaphoresis patient can be an example of nursing informatics in the clinical practice. The nurse identified restlessness and shakiness as the signs of hypoglycemia and performed patientcentered care through skill, literacy, and wisdom. In administration, I see it as the information science to manage and communicate patient data and information to the health care worker, patients, and families to promote and protect patient health and provides an inter-professional workflow. Educational, nursing informatics revolves around literacy. For instance, as I am taking this class right now, it will allow me to learn my role, skills and develop knowledge about what will be required of me as a nurse by the time I graduate. The research aspect of it will provide the concept of representative and standard to evidence-based practice and publicize new knowledge into the practice be it a negative or positive finding. The purpose is to provide the relevant evidence-based information that relates to both the health care worker and patients. What do you see as the biggest significance of nursing informatics, and why? The biggest significance of nursing informatics can be the patient as the patient is the center of the care. Health care workers should ensure to deliver precise and efficient care without any errors and should protect the privacy of the patient. If not, unwanted complications can occur. For instance, if a patient blood type is recorded incorrectly in the patient's computer data, there is a possibility of harming the patient that might cause serious problems or death to the patient. How might one define the concept of human-technology interfaces? How does “garbage in– garbage out” (GIGO) influence this? Human-technology interfaces can be defined as the interaction between humans and technology. In nursing, it is defined as the application of computer technology in all fields of nursing (Alhalawi, 2020). The concept Garbage-in-garbage out implies that bad input will result in bad output and nursing when using the humantechnology interface, it can quicken the spread of errors leading to a decrease in the quality of patient care. How would you describe cognitive informatics (CI)? Think about a plan of care that you have developed for a patient. How do you see cognitive informatics? Cognitive informatics is the interdisciplinary research area that includes informatics, computer science, software engineering, mathematics, knowledge theory, cognition science, neurobiology, psychology, and physiology. It investigates human information processing mechanisms and processes and their engineering applications in computing [ CITATION Mas08 \l 1033 ]. In general, the care plan of patients includes obtaining vital signs such as blood pressure and with the help of cognitive informatics nowadays it can be obtained and monitored automatically without going to the patient’s room. Looking at Technology Literacy and Electronic Health Records (EHR): I scored 77/100. I believe that technology helps tremendously in nursing by organizing and managing data efficiently. Learning about how to operate different software being used in clinical settings by graduation can come to be resourceful. Discuss the workflow design of your current workplace and some improvements that can be made that would give you the ability to do your job more efficiently. I remember working in ob./gyn office as a medical assistant where we used paper charting. It involved a lot of work and

effort to manage paper charting accurately. Somedays, we would sit after the office hours to finish filling and charting the medical charts. I think with the development of technology, the efficiency of charting medical records has improved and proven to be a great resource. How would you convince the financial, administrative side of the organization that the identified needs would be cost-effective? With the availability of appropriate resources, nurses can save valuable time that can help deliver better patient care and can also help in reducing errors. References Mastrian, K. (2008).
