Instructions for Using Matlab on a Home Computer Request Access to Unix     

Go to www.umanitoba.ca In the search box (top right) type ‘signum’ and search. The first link should be what you’re looking for. Click on it, and login. Once logged in, click on the “Request Access” link and then click “Request for self”. Click “Add to cart” next to IPA(Unix) and then click “Next” and finally “Submit”.

The process of actually ‘receiving’ these additional resources can take some time. You may have to wait anywhere from half an hour to a full day until the new setting takes effect.

Download and Install: Access Matlab off campus by downloading and installing the ThinLinc software (http://umanitoba.ca/ist/systems/unix/thinlinc.html)

To Configure: In the Connect window, enter the Server ccldesktop.cc.umanitoba.ca, your UMnetID and password and click Connect.

Opening MATLAB: To open MATLAB click Applications  U of M Apps  Matlab

Local Storage: To use local storage connected to your computer by configuring Local Devices:  

Start ThinLinc Click Options button

   

Select Local Devices tab On Drives check box, select Details, click Add, then click the … button Choose an inserted USB drive (preferred) or hard drive Then select Read/Write in the bottom left hand corner

Now you should be able to save MATLAB files to your computer or USB drive. These drives can be found in the home directory under “thindrives”....
