Is “The Princes Bride” a fairytale? Without a doubt, “The Princess Bride” is considered a fairytale. It contains every characteristic that describes these kinds of short stories. It is a story full of fantasy and supernatural characters that we would never see in real life. It has evil and good sides, just like every fairy tale does. Characters in this story that are good try to save people while evil characters try to impede that the good ones reach their goals. All of these characteristics make this story a fairytale. In a fairytale there are always two types of characters. This classification is in good characters and in evil characters. The good characters in this movie are the 3 heroes; Westley, Iñigo Montoya and the giant Fezzik. These heroes try to save the princess so they fight the evil. Another good character is the princess Buttercup; she is kind and nice and most important of all, she doesn’t look for vengeance. She is the princess who is captured by the evil king and is forced to marry him until Westley arrives to the rescue. On the other side, there are the evil characters, in this case the people who impede the princess and Westley to be happy and together. These evil characters are P  rince Humperdinck who forces the princess to marry him and orders his right-hand man to capture Westley and send him to the Pit of despair. And another evil character is Count Tyrone Rugen; he helps Prince Humperdinck in torturing Westley. Count Tyrone Rugen is considered a torturer, and a cold-blooded murderer. Vizzini is a character that appears at the beginning of the movie. He is evil since he is the one that captures princess Buttercup at first and takes her with him. However, Vizzini is not as evil as the other two characters; he dies early

because of the poisoned wine cup that Westley gives him. These two types of characters is what makes the movie/story to be considered a fairytale. In fairytales, magic is also very important. Stories in fairytales usually revolve around characters that don´t exist in real life; around abnormal characters that we would never see walking around on earth. In “The Princess Bride” magic can be seen through characters like old miracle Max and Giant Fezzik; both of them are supernatural creatures. Miracle Max is an old man who makes spells t o cure people who are about to die. Max creates a pill and gives it to Westley so he can come back to life; he does. Giant Fezzik is a character with no correct proportion. He has an abnormal height and posses a strength that no normal human being would ever have. All of these characteristics are the key points to know that “The Princes Bride” definitely is a fairytale. It includes good and evil, supernatural creatures and magic. It´s also a movie in which good struggles throughout the story but at the end it overcomes evilness. Besides, it is also a story that includes heroes who are the ones that save everyone. These heroes fight the evil and sacrifice themselves for the well being of others. However, evil characters always die or end in pain while good ones live happily ever after....
