Description

Diana Spencer was born on July 1, 1961. She dreamt of growing up to be a ballerina, though she grew up too tall to accomplish her dream. She married Prince Charles, heir to the British throne on July 29, 1981. They had two sons, William and Harry, but later divorced in 1996. On the night of August 30, 1997, Princess Diana died in a car crash in Paris trying to escape from the paparazzi. “News of her sudden, senseless death shocked the world. Thousands turned out to pay tribute to the "people's princess" during her funeral procession” (Source D). Diana, Princess of Wales, was someone the entire world looked at and had their eyes on. Those who knew her would describe her as someone who loved life and loved supporting any cause that had meaning to her. She was a strong advocate to help those suffering with AIDS and/or HIV. "Diana explained to me . . . that it was her innermost feelings of suffering that made it possible for her to connect with her constituency of the rejected." She felt connected with those who felt “rejected” from the world. "The unique, the complex, the extraordinary and irreplaceable Diana, whose beauty, both internal and external, will never be extinguished from our minds." (Source B). Elton John described Princess Diana as a “candle in the wind,” meaning that against all odds, she was a fighter fighting until the end. “Your candle burned out long before your legend ever will.” He went on to say in his re-written song of “Candle In The Wind” that Princess Diana was the nation’s golden child which is empty without her smile. She has brought so much joy to the country that words cannot express and “who'll miss the wings of your compassion more than you'll ever know” (Source A).

Princess Diana was an “exceptional and gifted human being.” She was loved by so many. Those who knew her will never forget her. “In good times and bad, she never lost her capacity to smile and laugh, nor to inspire others with her warmth and kindness” (Source C)....
