ISEM 699: Applied Project PROBLEM2: Understanding Digital Enterprises and Computer Aided Planning The overall goal of the company (who are the company’s ideal industry leaders, does the company want to be a manufacturer) Ans: DDS wants to capture the market with the unique business model of becoming a DIGITAL ENTERPRISE and being close to customers and fulfill their needs and by partnering with manufacturing units to customize DDS customer needs to the core and double the business over 3 years with innovative IT strategies. 

DDS company’s Industry leaders are Dell & Compaq. DDS does not want to be a manufacturer instead he wants to partner with existing manufacturers.  A general business strategy (2-3 sentences) Ans: DDS Business Strategy is to diversify his products and services and implement an innovative IT infrastructure that can support his business operations to increase the profits with reduced cost and by connecting his partnered units to deliver variety of customized products and solutions to his potential customers. DDS wants to create his market share in exploring opportunities into software, video games, mobile devises and wireless communications.  Should the NGE model be adopted by this company? Ans: Yes, I believe that NGE model works great for DDS as NGE employs innovative business model with increased partnerships and using emerging technologies (NGE Center) which DDS actually wants to implement and become a DIGITAL CORPORATION.  An application plan that supports the business strategy (3-4 sentences) Ans: I believe that IBM’s Business Systems Planning (BSP) best supports DDS business strategy. First, DDS has to develop a website with UI that can easily help customers to shop and enable digital payments that helps in slowing transforming to DIGITAL CORPORATION. DDS has to develop an automated strategy to Buy, Rent, Outsource, Develop in-house, or Extend-re-use (BRODE) so that it becomes an self-run model for inventory management, supply chain and distribution. 

An IT architecture diagram should include the computers, the databases, and the network shows how they are interconnected. This diagram should put all the pieces together and show how they are interconnected and accessed.

Brief cost-benefit analysis for automation used in the proposed IT plan (please use the simple approach suggested in Chapter2.) Ans: The simple Cost-Benefit analysis that we use is Portfolio Model, categorizing each service in terms of costs (low, high) and benefits (low, high) 

Investigate: He has to explore the high cost and high benefits services of implementing manufacturing units and open new retail store to develop his business to maximize the reach of his customers and serve them with the customized products and services. An attempt of outsourcing or partnering has to be made to reduce the cost in investing manufacturing units. Must-DO: To reduce the cost, he has to partner (Outsource) the manufacturing units and retail stores to implement his business strategy of being close to customers and with high benefits.

Here we are developing a Business Strategy and then planning Information Systems to make it a Digital Enterprise that can compete and succeed in the marketplace  How many attachments are in Project1 Description. Ans: Two attachments Attachment A: How to Develop a Business Strategic Plan Attachment B: How to Develop an Information Systems (IS) and Application Plan Attachment C is mentioned in Guidelines and Suggestions but it is not in the document. 6

 Can a team submit multiple files. Yes/No. Ans: No, Each team should submit one deliverable file.  Is the project deliverable emailed to the professor? Ans: No, It has to be uploaded to the Project 1Dropbox provided in the Moodle.
