1. a recent, published job advertisement in your field (likely cut and pasted from a website). If you get the ad from a printed source or physical job board, scan or photograph it. Make it easily readable. The advertisement should have been posted in January, 2018. The job description portion of the job ad should be at least 75 words. The advertised position should be a position you   

are now qualified for (e.g. for part-time employment this term or for a summer position) OR anticipate you’ll be qualified for after receiving your diploma in 2019 OR anticipate you’ll be qualified for after receiving your degree in 2021.

For the last two options, future-date and advance-update the package as if you have completed your diploma/degree. Preferably, choose an ad that asks for a letter and resume. If the ad asks you to fill out an electronic form, don’t do that; prepare a letter and resume for me instead. Download the ad when you find it, to avoid losing it if it is later deleted by its poster.

2. a job-specific “cover” message, not longer than one page. You have the choice of presenting your message as an e-mail  

with the message in the message field beginning “Dear _____” and ending with a signature block (“Sincerely” …) with a full-format letter as an attachment beginning with the sender’s address.

Choose the second option only if the ad is for a position in which you would likely prepare formal correspondence. In either case, the message body must refer the reader to your attached resume.

3. A job-specific resume, one full page or two full pages. Choose the latter if you have 10+ years of relevant work experience. 4. a one-page skills profile: a list of10 single-word skills you possess that qualify you for the ad’s position (alphabetical order).

5. a one-page personality profile: a list of10 single-word personality traits that qualify you for the ad’s position (alpha. order). Flawless GAP and design are required: more than one typographical, spelling, or major GAP error on the resume will keep it from passing.*

Marking 5 marks for the letter, 5 marks* for the resume, 5 marks** for the interview done on your lab day in Week 4, the week of the Jan. 24 lecture. 1 mark will be deducted for each of the following not submitted or not satisfactory: the ad, the skills summary list, or the personality summary list. *The resume will be marked as either

.

The letter will be marked out of 5. **The interview will be peer-marked with your input. A mark will be deducted for late arrival to the Week 4 lab (interview day); a mark will be deducted for not having paper copies of the above five documents at the beginning of lab....
