Description

Epa 1 intro This activity has helped me to access and use USP’s ICT resources available on-campus and off-campus. The activity gave me an opportunity to select an appropriate learning experience and thus, by a mind map we had to list down our learning experience and use the different features of Mahara to showcase our learning experience. Reflection The floating content chooser in Mahara has various features which allow a user to effectively portray his/her resources. Like the Media feature will allow to showcase various types of media resources e.g folders, embedded media, and other things. Thus, ePortfolios role in our life journey would simply be to effectively showcase our learning experiences. Epa 2 intro In this activity we had to critically evaluate between two different laptops. The evaluation had to be done in relation to our requirements and what will the laptop be used for. Hence, after the evaluation, we had to choose which laptop would be most suitable to our needs. Reflection In Topic 4 the key concepts were simply the categories of computers, describing and identifying the various components of a computer, identifying and procuring a computer system which meet the needs of the buyer and recognizing and discussing the purpose of computer networks. Hence, other factors to consider while buying a PC apart from its hardware specifications is simply, our budget, whether its parts are available that could be bought quickly when your PC has been damaged and finally whether the PC will last long or not. Epa 6 Intro The activity ePortfolio 6 was all about spreadsheet. In this activity we had to use the data given to create a pivot chart and a pivot table according to the guidelines stated. After creating, we had to use the features of the pivot chart and pivot table to get the required information in the summary sheet. Reflection

The skills and experiences I attained after the completion of the ePortfolio 6 are:  

Learnt on how to create a pivot table. Learnt how to create a pivot chart.

Furthermore some useful features of MS Excel that can be used for data analysis in academic research could simply be:

 

The use of pivot table to easily analyze the data and getting the acquired results. The use of pivot chart for presentation of data whereby the presenter could simply use the filters to showcase different data very easily.

Epa 3 4 Intro In this ePortfolio activity 3&4 interpret a course reading list and find the information resources using Web Search Engines, the Laucala Library Catalogue and ProQuest Database. We had to use the given template to document the search strategy devised to search and locate the required information resources. We had to find each resource by with the specified search tool stated below the resource. Reflection

The Library of Congress classification system divides all knowledge into 21 basic classes, each identified by a single letter of the alphabet. Most of these alphabetical classes are further divided into more specific sub-classes, identified by two-letter, or occasionally three-letter, combinations. Hence, the library at my campus uses the Dewey Decimal Classification system. Moreover, three different techniques supported by ProQuest are: 1. Phrase Search - allows user to get the exact results that are quoted in the quotation marks. 2. Time Limiter - allows user to get the results under a certain time-frame. 3. Source type - allows the user to get the specified and the desired source type e.g Audio & Video Works, Books, and many more. Epa 5 Intro Eportfolio 5 was about pinterest. We had to get an illustration that I as a student could use for academic purposes that identifies a Web 2.0 tool. Of the identified tool, we had to evaluate how it would be helpful for us in our learning journey, some of the social and ethical issues that can potentially arise though the improper use of the selected tool and how would I protect myself against such threats. In the end, we had to simply find a image that shows how we can protect ourselves from online social network threats. Reflection

The importance of maintaining web presence in the information age is that we should keep in touch with the world around us. Also we must be aware as to what is happening around us. Moving on, some of the skills required to be an effective online learner are simply:   

Having internet skills like connecting, accessing and using browsers. Having the ability to use online communication tools, such as email, discussion forums, chats, etc. Having the ability to manage your time wisely.
