1. What specialty or role did you choose? Oncology Nurse 2.

What are the educational requirements? You do not have to include basic training like CPR, but include all degree requirements, license requirements, and any other specialized training required.

To be an Oncology Nurse you must get your ADN, but to get a competitive pay you would need to get your BSN then get your license as a Registered Nurse. Then you would have to volunteer and get certified as an Oncology Nurse.

3. Describe available certifications specific to that specialty. Include the name of the certification, eligibility requirements, and how the certification is earned. After that you can take some online courses offered by Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation (ONCC). You would have to get certified with the OCN. Just to take this exam you would have to do 1000 hours of adult oncology nursing before you can take the test. You would also have to do 10 contact hours of education about oncology. Then you can get Certified. You would have to renew your certification every four year. 4. What does a nurse do in this role? You may include some general nursing roles, but you should include a minimum of 3 things that are SPECIFIC TO THAT SPECIALTY. An Oncology Nurse works with patient who have or in danger for getting cancer. They work closely a lot of healthcare workers to help provide care for their patients they work as a team to plan for cancer patients. They must be strong, compassion, have a lot of patience and empathy for their patients.

5. Describe possible locations/settings where this nurse can work. Oncology Nurses can work in clinics that specializes in detecting and treating cancer patients. They can work in hospitals wards, where they provide around the clock care for cancer patients. They can work in transplant units, where cancer patients get second chances by people donating bone morrow and other body organs.

6. Identify the professional nursing organization that represents this specialty in the United States. Some specialties have more than one associated professional organization. Please choose one to list here, along with their mission or vision statement. One of the professional organizations that represents Oncology Nursing is ASPO, American Society of Preventive Oncology and Their vision statement is ASPO is the organization for accelerating progress towards cancer prevention and control. Their mission statement: To foster the continuing development of investigators and other professionals involved in cancer prevention and control, and the exchange and translation of scientific information to reduce the cancer burden.
