This class section is offered only in-person.

Students are expected to adhere to CDC & Penn State guidelines while completing exercise activities assigned for this class. This includes wearing a mask over the mouth and nose during assigned activities while indoors. Masks will be required for reentry into the building.

Masks Usage:

- Indoor/Outdoor distancing in KPAP activity courses will be at least 6 feet.

- Outdoor Mask use is optional but recommended at less than 6 feet.

- Indoor mask use is required at all times.

- Masks must always be with each student even when outdoors and not being worn; masks will be needed to reenter buildings.

- Reminder of mask use and abiding by local, state, and federal guidelines as those could be changing.

Students may be expected to utilize smart phone apps that require data usage such as MapMyFitness to record activities to submit to Canvas. Students must be available to attend class during their assigned class time. We will be working out during most class periods, with occasional out of class activities.

COVID capacities for gymnasium spaces were calculated allowing for a minimum 6 feet distance between persons. To ensure spacing is maintained, spot markers or forensic tents will be placed by instructors prior to class to mark individual spaces; students will remain within a designated distance to their marker. High-touch surface areas will be cleaned and disinfected prior to each use; additional facility disinfection will take place as well, potentially including full building clears periodically throughout the day in all Campus Recreation buildings

Delivery mode is subject to change in accordance with CDC and PSU COVID guidelines. You will be made aware of changes in class and via Canvas.

Prior to all in-person KINES physical activity courses, all students must conduct and complete a health self-assessment. Upon arrival to class, students will be asked to verbally confirm that they are symptom-free and passed the health assessment.

Any students who fall into a high-risk category should consult their primary care provider to determine if the activity is suitable and if they need to follow additional precautionary measures while participating.

Conducting the Health Self-Assessment:

STEP 1: Determine if you have experienced any symptoms of COVID-19 symptoms (per CDC updated list): o o o

Cough Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing Or at least two of the following symptoms:

o Fever or subjective fever (feeling feverish or temperature of 100 degrees F or higher)

o Chills

o Headache

o Sore throat

o Repeated shaking with chills

o Muscle pain

o New loss of taste or smell

STEP 2: Check in with your instructor prior to the start of class to report results of health self-assessment.

Upon arrival to class, students will be asked to verbally certify that they have passed their health screen by responding to “Have you passed your health self -assessment?” Only individuals who answer “yes” will be allowed to remain in class. Individuals failing the self-assessment, by either answering “no” or not completing it, will be denied admittance to class.

• •

Students who feel sick, have symptoms, or have been exposed to COVID-19 will not be permitted to participate in class and will be advised to seek the advice of a medication professional as appropriate. Students should not attempt to gain access to in-person class time if they have not passed the health assessment.

• •

Class Format

This is an activity-based class. Attendance and positive participation are REQUIRED for students to be successful in this course. This class will consist of both lectures and

exercise sessions. Exercises and activities may be assigned to the entire class or to individuals, partners, or small groups. Students will participate in a variety of exercises including, but not limited to: bodyweight moves, running, stair/hill climbing, etc. Students should be prepared to work hard, try new things, and push themselves! •

NOTE: Should COVID conditions change, KPAP may need to shift in-person options to mixed mode courses which require an in-person component of smaller groups of students and either a synchronous remote or an asynchronous web component. In a few instances, courses may need to shift to entirely virtual if physical recreation spaces are forced off-line.

• •

Behavior & Decorum

Students are expected to come to class prepared to participate and engage with the material, instructor, and their classmates. All University policies are enforced even if class changes to remote. Penn State is a smoke/tobacco-free campus. The use of any smoking/tobacco product, including e-cigarettes (vapes) is strictly prohibited during class time and during or directly before class activities.

Engagement and Participation

Students are expected to participate in all class activities and attend all classes. Part of participation includes planning appropriately to allow time for assigned activities during the week while taking weather and other factors into consideration. Students should be appropriately prepared for classes. This includes dressing for physical activity, acting appropriately and respectfully to all participants.

Recommended attire includes comfortable clothing that allows for movement. Students should expect to exercise outdoors in all types of weather. Sneakers must be worn for all activities, preferably running or cross training sneakers. These shoes should have a good athletic sole and construction. Your heart rate monitor must be worn as part of your daily attire and will be issued after the first week. All belongings must be secured in the locker room with a lock you provide. Cell phones, headphones and pagers are not permitted in class.

Weekly Activity Reflections:

Students will be responsible for submitting 13 weekly activity reflections. Each reflection requires heart rate monitor screen shots from each class activity attended and completion of reflection questions (see specific assignment guidelines under modules). Completing all activities and reflection questions will result in 8 points with points being deducted for any portion not completed &/or unanswered reflection questions. If you become hurt or sick, it is your responsibility to reach out to the instructor for an

alternative activity when necessary. Make-ups will not be provided unless you first receive permission from the instructor. •

While we will be spending the majority of time outside, there may be extenuating circumstances that keep us inside on the track. The track is small and often times we have multiple sections using the track at one time with little ventilation. In order to prevent nasal irritation I ask that you please reframe from wearing cologne or perfume during class time.
