Week 3 Lab Task Investigate Application Layer protocols of the Internet Model •

HTTP (Hypertext Transfer Protocol) is an application-layer protocol for transferring hypermedia document on web applications. In addition, HTTP follows client-server model. The basics of HTTP is to set up a communication between the web browsers and the web servers. HTTP enables the transfer of files, for instance, text, images, video and other media. HTTP works on the top of TCP/IP. Furthermore, A web browser act as an HTTP client which sends a request to the server. Thereafter, server responds to request by sending back the requested file or else. It is obvious that a web page can have many files in the form of hyperlink.

FTP (File Transfer Protocol) is a medium to transfer file to and from each other. Downloading files from FTP is suitable. In addition to this, FTP follows structure which includes FTP client to log into FTP server to transfer files to both ends. Moreover, FTP consists of two basic channels to operate. First, the command channel which holds the information about the task and the other one is data channel which is used to transfer the files between devices. Also, FTP is the foremost format to transfer files. However, FTP transfer files are easy to intercept which means files are not encrypted. To overcome this drawback, FTPS or SFTP is used which is quite similar to FTP, but it is safe, i.e. files are encrypted.

Cloned Linux Lite instance pinging the base Linux Lite image: 

In Linux Lite open Terminal and type ifconfig to get the IP address.

 

In linked clone, Open Terminal. Enter command ping -c 3 along with IP address of the linux lite (giving command to transmit 3 packets). ping -c 3 192.168.0.184

Now we can observe that connectivity with the machine with IP 192.168.0.184 and it took slightly more than 1 millisecond for the destination machine to reply.
