Interpretation and Questions 1. The IMViC test are based on some enzymatic/physiological process. Name the substrates for the enzymes in the indole, MRVP, and citrate test. Indole is tryptophan. MRVP is glucose/dextrose. Citrate is citrate. 2. Is it possible for an organism to be MR+ and VP+? Why or why not? It is possible, usually an organism uses one pathway to generate acid or neutral end products. 3. Why is it important to inoculate only a single tube per organism when performing MRVP tests? It guarantees that the test will be the same. Using multiple tubes can potentially cause an error to occur. 4. During lab, your lab partner bumps into you, jostling your arm while you are inoculating your SIM tube. Is it still possible to reliably evaluate sulfide, indole, and motility results from this tube? Which reactions will still e accurate? The sulfide and indole test results can still be accurate. As for the motility test results, they will not be accurate due to the medium being ripped from that bump. 5. The case file describes a cluster of food poisoning incidences. If the causative agent is Salmonella spp., then give your prediction of the IMViC test results. Indole would be negative (-). MR would be positive (+). VP would be negative (-). Citrate would be negative (-)....
