3 ABSTRACT In this virtual laboratory, you will experiment with the growth conditions of the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae to produce as much bioethanol as quickly as possible. We conducted this experiment on a pilot scale and developed the aerobic and anaerobic fermentation process to produce second-generation bioethanol. We took into account that fermentation technology can produce compounds. Yeast, a single-celled organism, undergoes a fermentation process to produce alcohol and carbon dioxide. The production of ethanol through fermentation by yeast is to be generally used to produced alcoholic beverages such as beer and wine. It can also help sustainably produce bioethanol, which could be useful as fuel. Learned to optimize bioethanol production on a pilot scale. After setting up the benchtop fermenter or bioreactor, you will add a yeast inoculum and run a fermentation experiment. Also, we are going to learn how to work aseptically and the first set of growing conditions to get acquainted with the equipment, you can freely experiment with the fermenter. In the process, we will be able to collect essential data where we have tested many different growth parameters and see the effects of diverse combinations of temperature, gas composition, level of agitation, and pH in a matter of minutes. What growing conditions can be used for optimal bioethanol production on an industrial scale?

4 LABSTER – FERMENTATION LAB INTRODUCTION Fermentation is also a kind of anaerobic respiration, which occurs when pyruvate is metabolized in the cytoplasm without oxygen. Lactic acid fermentation in muscle cells and ethanol fermentation in yeast are the two types of fermentation found among organisms. Only two ATPs are produced per glucose molecule in fermentation. METHODS Fermentation is a process by most living organisms obtain ATP without the use of oxygen. Yeast in presence of oxygen undergo cellular respiration but in the absence of oxygen it undergoes alcohol fermentation where, sugar is converted into pyruvate and then the pyruvate is converted into ethanol alcohol in two steps by releasing carbon dioxide. DISCUSSION [When using headings, don’t skip levels. If you need a heading 3, 4, or 5 with no text following it before the next heading, just add a period at the end of the heading and then start a new paragraph for the subheading and its text.] (Last Name, Year)
