Lazy Managment...

Description

Lazy Managers & Lazy Subordinates What makes a manager “good”? There are many qualities that a manager can possess that makes them known as a good well rounded manager. In high school, I started working at the Santikos Pallidum AVX- West Houston in 2013, from the start I noticed the lack of communication from the gm all the way down to the average employee. I came in to the job with higher expectations then I should have. Starting out with the first management team I got to know, they lacked many qualities. I started out on the restaurant side in the FOH, the manager mike would forever stand in my mind of what you shouldn’t do as a manager. He would send out weekly if not daily emails, but the rules that he would outline in those emails he wouldn’t even follow. I’ve always been a firm believer in lead my example. For example, if you tell employees they can’t be on their phones during work then you shouldn’t be on your mobile device either. He expected us to work at the most efficient pace but when you needed help, you’d find him causally kicking back in the dining room with his phone in hand. For the past 4 years I’ve dedicated my free time to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, as a committee member of the Junior Rodeo Committee. It has been an amazing learning experience. Comparing the experience with this amazing organization versus the Pallidum, it’s like night and day. The leadership is as close to perfect as you could ever dream of. In the first year of serving, being able to hear the President and Ceo of the rodeo speak at our general meeting, motivated me. From that day on, I knew what I wanted to do after college. I’d spend a lifetime with the Rodeo and one day be able to serve as the President. I’d want to continue the traditions of this organization, and continue the positive impacts on the local community. Since the creation of the Houston Rodeo, we have donated millions to the Houston economy , and given millions more in

scholarships to promote the growth of Agricultural Education. The rodeo has a well defined chain of command, from the President to the amazing exec board to the committee chairmen and presidents. The rodeo is more like a family of over 25000 people instead of a job....
