FIELD STUDY LEARNING EPISODE 8 CLOSE ENCOUNTER WITH THE SCHOOL CURRICULUM Activity 8.1 Curricula in the School Setting OBSERVED 1. Locate where you can find the following curriculum in the school setting. Secure a copy, make observations of the process, and record your information in the matrix below. Describe your observation TYPE OF CURRICULUM 1. Recommended Curriculum (K TO 12 GUIDELINES)

WHERE FOUND

Classroom/faculty

DESCRIPTION It provides a basic framework for the curriculum. It identifies the key learning areas. It specifies the boundaries as well as the destination. So, it guides the curriculum coordinator in formulating the academic standards to be achieved through various teaching-learning programmes.

2.Written Curriculum (Teacher Lesson Plan)

Classroom/Home

The written curriculum refers to a lesson plan or syllabus written by teachers. Another example is the one written by curriculum experts with the help of subject teachers.

3.Taught Curriculum (Teaching Learning Process)

Classroom/Online class

This is about the implementation of the written curriculum. Whatever is being taught or an activity being done in the classroom /online distance learning is a taught curriculum.

Assessment curriculum is the systematic basis for making inferences about the learning and development of students. This is what students actually learn within their classroom. The results, if students improve and change their behavior either in the three domains of learning. Hidden curriculum refers to the unwritten, unofficial, and often unintended lessons, values, and perspectives that students learn in school.

ANALYZE Which of seven types of curriculum in the school setting is easy to find? ➢ For me the type of curriculum that is easy to find in the school setting is Taught Curriculum because every day teachers apply this in the class to teach their students that came from the written curriculum. Why? Which is difficult to observe? Why? ➢ For me the difficult to observe is the Hidden Curriculum. The hidden curriculum is described as “hidden” because it is usually unacknowledged or unexamined by students, educators, and the wider community. Are these all found in the school setting? How do curricula relate to one another? ➢ Yes, because they are connected with each other. Curriculum sequences the outcomes so they build on each other. This ensures that students have the prerequisite skills necessary for success on the next unit or grade level.

Draw a diagram to show the relationship of one curriculum to the another.

The seven types of curriculum are connected to each other. The relationship between the different types of curriculum is highly connected and they both serve to enhance each other. Curriculum is one of many tools used to give you an education or a method you use to do the teaching. A well-crafted curriculum serves as a reference to ensure that you're on the right track. Its components are designed to develop concepts, from a basic level to increasingly complex topics or skills.

ANALYZE Answer the following questions based on the diagram. 1. Are the three components constructively aligned? Explain. ➢ Yes, the three components are constructively aligned from setting the learning outcomes, down to what methods to be accurately used to achieve the outcomes and what types of assessment to be conducted to test the level of learning the students have. 2. Will the outcomes be achieved with the teaching method used? Why? ➢ Yes, the outcome was achieved with the teaching methods the teacher used. Because of flexible learning we had online and modular learning. Through the use of modern technology we use digital presentation and other teaching methods that will help the students to learn in this time of pandemic 3. What component would tell if the outcomes have been achieved? ➢ The Evaluation and Assessment part will tell if the outcomes have been achieved when the students are able to get a passing or above average scores and perform well in the activity set. REFLECT What lesson have you learned in developing or writing a lesson plan? ➢

I have learned in developing or writing a lesson plan that you need to align the three components so you could achieve what you want to achieve. Then, I need to plan ahead the knowledge, skills and values for the three domains of learning that I want to achieve by my students. Also choose the right method to achieve the desired outcome and it must provide evaluation and assessment that is anchored with your learning outcomes to test where your learner's at the time of learning.

What value will it give to the teacher if the three components are aligned? ➢

The value of success will be gained by the teacher if the three components are aligned together. Success in delivering the lessons efficiently, and learning to the students effectively.

learning utilizes different technology to aid students in their classroom learning. Many educators use computers and tablets in the classroom, and others may use the internet to assign homework. The internet is also beneficial in a classroom setting as it provides unlimited resources. Teachers may also use the internet in order to connect their students with people from around the world.

LEARNING EPISODE 9: PREPARING FOR TEACHING AND LEARNING Activity 9.1 Demonstrating an Understanding of Research-Based Knowledge Principles of Teaching and Learning OBSERVE Principles of Learning

1.

What did the Resource Teacher do to apply the principle of learning

The Resource Teachers apply this principle of Effective learning begins with the learning by presenting a powerpoint about her setting of clear and high expectations o intended learning outcome regarding the topics. learning outcomes.

2. Learning is an active process

The teacher lets the student actively participate in the class discussion and engage in educational learning activities.

3. Learning is the discovery of personal meaning and relevance of ideas.

The teacher gives an opportunity to the students to create and share their ideas regarding the topic.

4. Learning is a cooperating and a collaborative process. Learning is enhanced in an atmosphere of cooperation and collaboration.

I observed Grade 4 students, we meet virtually because we have a pandemic and having a collaborative and cooperative atmosphere is difficult to do. The interaction appears to challenge and stretch us to produce creative solutions and become more creative. She has different way how to apply t this learning.

ANALYZE 1. What principles of learning were most applied? Least applied? Most applied ➢ The most applied principle of learning is “effective learning begins with setting clear and high expectations of learning outcomes.” because it is the daily classroom routine of the class. We need to ensure the effective management of the classroom to be organized and discipline the students. This learning principle helps students to learn and achieve more.

Least applied Give instances where this/these principles could have been applied ➢ The learning principle that was applied least from all the principles is the, “Learning is a cooperating and a collaborative process. Learning is enhanced in an atmosphere of cooperation and collaboration.” because we are experiencing a pandemic.

REFLECT From among the principles of learning. Which one do you think is the most important? ➢

I think the most important is “Learning is the discovery of the personal meaning and

relevance of ideas.” because learning is a process which requires the exploration of ideas in relation to self and community. Within broad programmatic boundaries what is relevant and meaningful is decided by the learner, and must be discovered by the learner. It can help individuals to be understood and accepted, and serves in important ways to guide his reflective thinking and his choice of activities or actions.
