Narrative Psychology
We are born into a storied world with morals where we are constructing a reality through which we make sense of the world. How we construct narratives about our lives. Murray (2003)- ‘Organised interpretation of a sequence of events which involves attributing agency to the characters in the narrative and inferring causal links between events.’
Goes against the positive paradigm in psychology due to explaining language, opposite shift to quantitative research methods. Most narratives fall under:
Comedy- story that progresses towards a happy ending Romance- progressive tale in which the character overcomes adversity and regains what has been lost Tragedy- regressive tale in which the character suffers adversity Satire- considers the absurdity of life

Understanding phenomenon or experience, no logical or scientific explanations Stories are own interpretations within a social construct, not a ‘set of facts’...
