1. Open this .kml file in Google Earth: 2008AtlanticHurricaneSeason.kmz (in I-Learn). Turn on the “Borders and Labels” layer. Find hurricane Dolly. What category was it when it made landfall (i.e. the first plotted category value on land)? a. 1 2. Which of these is the nearest inland city to where it made landfall (along the freeway)? c. Harlingen 3. Examine the elevations along the coast between the city in #2 and the coast (not the islands). Measure along the river. Approximately how far inland could a 20 foot storm surge go here? d. 30 miles 4. In Google Earth, go to “Miami Beach, Florida” using the Search box. Make sure the 3D buildings layer is turned off (because GE gives elevations of the buildings when this is turned on). What is the ground elevation where the symbol/label is?
