Description

Sonia Landry MAT-150 June 26, 2020 Project 1: Lesson Plan 1. Overview: This class activity will focus on the four steps to solve a word problem. Teach the students how to explain, plan, solve and examine a problem. Work several example word problems for the students to get an understanding of the equations. Group the students in groups of 4. Give them 4 cards with word problems on them so that they can work on the four-step problem solving strategy. One person in the group will be the team leader of the group and be the spokesperson to explain the answers the group came up with. 2. Objectives: The objective is for students to be able to explain, plan, solve and examine math problems and checking their work once they are done.

3. Time This should take about 45 minutes to an hour.

4. Materials: Math cards, pencils, papers, and white board

5. Activity: After showing children examples of the math problems, choose a card and show them how to solve the problem on the card step by step. Show them how they must first look at the problem and understand how to solve the problem by breaking it down little at a time. Once they understand the problem, then show them how to solve it. Remind the children to be sure and check their work. Explain each step to them and allow them to repeat the steps. Make sure each child understands what is expected of them before they are placed into groups. Show them how the team leader will act as the teacher after the assignment is over. That child will go over to the whiteboard and explain to the class how the answers were achieved in each group. Create the groups of 4 and delegate the team leader. If any extra children remain, just add them to another group. For example, if left with two children, then make 2 groups with 5 children. Encourage the children to read the problems thoroughly and discuss the problems among the group members....
