Letter Of Intent

Grace Strzalka College of Education, Grand Canyon University EDU 525: Foundations of Elementary Education Graduate Studies William Hintze December 8th, 2021

2 Letter of Intent as an Educator Across America, each state has their own requirements and standards for educators. “Professional Dispositions are professional attitudes, values, beliefs demonstrated through both verbal and non-verbal behaviors as educators interact with students, families, colleagues and communities” (Bloomsburg University, 2021). This letter will discuss the how educators meet their requirements professionally. Curricular and Professional Progression There are a few specific requirements in order for me to be licensed in the state of Illinois’. One requirement is that I have a certification for the grade levels that I wish to teach, elementary or secondary certification. In order to receive this certification, I must take subject area tests, complete student teaching experience, and pass the Illinois certification exam (Illinois State Board of Education) Illinois Teacher Certification Requirements After developing and becoming a certified professional teacher in the state of Illinois, I must renew and maintain my teaching license. After five years of teaching, I must pay $50 in order to renew my license. In addition to the monetary fee, I must complete 100 hours of professional development as well as submit an assurance statement. I must also provide proof of where I have taught in the last year of my license's validity. Maintaining Ethics and Dispositions Dispositions are a very important aspect of being an educator because they reflect how you feel and act. It is important to consistently reflect on your dispositions because there is always room for improvement. I will maintain positive dispositions in my classroom through ethical behavior because my attitudes towards my students will directly affect their education.

3 Professional Development One of the goals that I plan to achieve in my professional development is to integrate more technological tools into my classroom in order to create a more personalized learning experience for my student’s using software. Another goal of continued learning that I plan to achieve is to keep advancing in my field of study and have continuous interaction with other experts in the field.
