After watching the small clip on the Graduate with the scene with the son in the water shows a metaphor for Ben’s conflict with his parents culture and his values. The conflict between the son and his parents is that he just graduated college and he came back home to live with his parents and they want control with his life and want to control the path he goes in, and he really isn’t about going in that path. He is also very unsure of how is future is because he doesn’t know what to do besides what his parents want him to do. During the scene when it shows the water it’s not any normal water this water or any normal pool. In the beginning when the camera cuts into the pool water you can see that it is kind of fuzzy and not clear and blurry, in this part shows that the Ben seems unclear on what he is doing nor what his future holds for him. Later in the scene his parents throw him a graduation party for graduating from college and he thinks to himself that he wants to go to graduate school, but this is goes back to being in the water because the water was blurry and this and he’s not sure what his future holds for him. Bens family is making a huge controlling face in his life and he’s not about it at all. When the scene was first starting his dad was pointing out that he was in the scuba suit and made a joke out of him. This shows that in the movie that his father is controlling him and what his does in his life and won’t let him do what he wants to do. When ben was swimming in the pool with the suit it made the hard breathing and how slow his movements were that he was trapped and this is how he feels how his parents are treating him and controlling his future in his life....
