Complications Ataxia, confusion, CVA, depression, dizziness, fatigue, headache, hallucinations, insomnia, irritability, memory impairment, mood alterations, nervousness, hypotension, MI, orthostatic hypotension, palpitations, peripheral edema, hyperglycemia, blurred vision, dry mouth, photophobia, abdominal pain, anorexia, constipation, diarrhea, flatulence, gastritis, hepatitis, indigestion, nausea, pancreatitis, vomiting, acute renal failure, herpes zoster, infections, pruritis, rash, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, anaphylaxis, angioedema, dehydration, gout, hyperkalemia, hyponatremia, weigh gain or loss

Medication Administration PO: 5-10 mg daily (max: 80 mg/day) Tablet

Contraindications/Precautions History of angioedema related to previous treatment with an ACE inhibitor; hypersensitivity to lisinopril, other ACE inhibitors or their components; pregnancy, lactation.

Interactions Indomethacin, NSAIDs, sympathomimetics, high potassium diet, potassium-containing salt substitutes, alcohol use, lithium lels and toxicity.

Nursing Interventions Do not give to a patient who is hemodynamically unstable after an MI; monitor patient for anaphylaxis; notify prescriber if patient has a persistent, nonproductive cough; monitor for dehydration, monitor patients serum potassium level; measure BP prior to medicating.

Client Education Evaluation of Medication Effectiveness Blood pressure will return to normal limits
