Taylor Javey Live Performance Report NBA Youngboy 4/6/18

When I arrived at the venue to see NBA Youngboy I was very excited. The performance was enhanced because I enjoyed the show with my best friend and my boyfriend. NBA Youngboy is a new hip-hop rapper who made his debut in 2014. He is a great performer because he dances and enjoys the time on stage involving the crowd. The crowd’s reaction was overwhelmingly cheerful as soon as he stepped food on the stage. NBA Youngboy graced the crowd, and everyone went WILD! His smile lit up the room accompanied by his music. The performance did not relate to any social commentary. NBA stands for “Never Broke Again.” NBA Youngboy is only 18 years old and writes his own music. NBA has released music while in jail and songs hit the mainstream and topped the HOT 100 Billboards. NBA Youngboy’s music is from the twenty-first century. This concert was held at a night club in Austintown, Ohio. The crowd was majority of African American ethnicity and this allows me to understand that NBA markets his music to their culture. The crowd’s reaction also, allowed me to understand that his musical style – rap, is widely accepted by them. I had a great time because of how well NBA performed. During the Live Performance NBA Youngboy performed many songs, some of which I learned the night of. NBA Youngboy is an example of popular music in America because hip-hop also known as “rap” is a popular genre for students my age. One of my favorite songs NBA Youngboy performed a song titled “Ride.” This

song is in dedication to his hometown girlfriend and expresses his love for her through this song. NBA Youngboy delivered this song on stage perfectly with his girlfriend joining him on stage. He looked into her eyes and sang the lyrics to her, it was very romantic. This song specifically, demonstrates American popular music in a different style because it comes from a rapper. Not often, do rappers show their romantic side to the world, and I think his audience loves this song so much because of this. NBA Youngboy really sets himself apart from other rappers on this track. NBA Youngboy closed his performance on the stage with a song titled “Outside Today.” The lyrics in this song talks about why NBA does not want to go outside today, “Tryna hide from the cameras, I aint going outside today.” NBA Youngboy goes on to talk about money. This quality in his music is another direct example of what makes NBA Youngboy a rapper – rappers in the twenty-first century talk about their money a lot. I really enjoyed the concert and the finale song was perfect because it was his most popular song at the time. I did not have any complaints because the venue chosen was not overcrowded....
