Quiz structure

Process & Preparation

You will be presented with twenty (20) questions across the topics covered. - Sixteen (16) of the questions will be theory questions (eg. questions about the law / legal principles and prescribed cases) and four (4) of the questions will be short problems. - Each question will present four (4) possible answers, one (1) of which is correct.

You will have 45 minutes to complete the MCQ. Your time will commence once you select the “begin” button. You will only have one (1) attempt at the MCQ. Therefore, once you start you must complete and “Save and Submit” all your answers within the set time. At the end of 45 minutes, the quiz will automatically end and autosave (submit) your completed questions for marking. For these purposes the clock in Blackboard will be the official time.

We recommend that you use the “Save Answer” button after you answer each question. (This ensures that, if for any reason you lose a connection, those answers you have already completed will be saved). You can change answers saved and resave before submission.

You should use the Mozilla Firefox web browser to load the LLB102 Blackboard site to take the MCQ, as it is the browser certified for use with Blackboard. You may experience technical difficulties if you use a different browser to take the MCQ. Mozilla Firefox can be downloaded at: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/. Blackboard is not certified for use with Internet Explorer. You will not be able to complete the MCQ using the Safari browser. It is your responsibility to undertake the MCQ in a place and at a time when you will not be disturbed. If you fail to do so and are disturbed you will not have grounds for special consideration for that reason. Because you have four (4) days to complete the MCQ, last minute computer malfunctions or online assess issues will not be accepted as valid grounds for failing to complete the assessment before the due date and time.

Study tips

Technical difficulties

You are strongly recommended to study for the MCQ as if it were a closed book exam. Flicking through books or notes searching for answers will eat into your time. If you wish to refer to materials, make sure you have them ready before commencing the MCQ.

Questions concerning prescribed cases will focus on the legal principles discussed, and/or how those principles were applied, in those cases. Where relevant, the different tests of various judges in a case may also be assessed. Questions may refer directly or indirectly to prescribed cases.

To maximise your results, you should have a knowledge, understanding and ability to apply not only the law / legal principles, but the facts of prescribed cases and how principles have been applied in them.

While you may find each module’s ‘Test Your Knowledge’ quiz (which appears as part of each week’s learning module under “Learning Resources”) a useful review tool, please note that the style of the questions in the MCQ may not be the same. Also, the MCQ questions are not taken from the ‘Test Your Knowledge’ quizzes.

If you encounter any technical errors: write down the error message (if possible take a screen capture of it); contact the IT Helpdesk (07 3138 2000) and email Law Enquiries ([email protected]) and the unit coordinator ([email protected]) immediately. However, if your browser window does close during the test, try reloading Blackboard and entering the test again first BEFORE spending time contacting anyone. As long as you can re-enter the MCQ, your test will be there and your timer will continue to run. Please also note that there will be no staff support available outside of IT Helpdesk (7am-6pm), and normal office, hours (AEST) – so please keep this in mind when selecting a time to take your assessment....
