One method of socialization that I recognized in Jonah's story was Cognitive. In cognitive, the effect emerges from information processing. In Jonah's experience, his father was using a lot of

His father was using a lot of verbal comments, reflecting on what Jonah was doing and prompting him to think about both the strategies he already used, as well as possible strategies to use in the future to get the task done more efficiently. His father helped Jonah to define the task, define the strategy that he was using, and then explore other solutions. Jonah's father's instructions were developmentally appropriate. His tone of voice and vocabulary usage were well suited for an eight-year-old child to understand and respond to. It was good that his father used this method because he was instructing Jonah in an environment where he was safe emotionally, but also had the freedom to make mistakes and learn from his mistakes . One example of when this was used in the video is
when Jonah goes to feed the chickens. He ends up filling two of the five bowls with the food, only to leave the three empty. His father asks Jonah "what happened?" and Jonah proceeds to explain how he made a mistake with the distribution so he will have to go back to a distant point and get two more scoops of grain. His father then makes a suggestion for another solution, which is to re-distribute the food in the two bowls evenly so that it's in all five. This is much more effective and doesn't require Jonah to walk all the way back. Also, it maintains the amount of food being given to the chickens, and doesn't lead to them being overfed. It is important to note that Jonah's father allowed him to identify his own mistake and solution, before helping to come up with a new solution that might be a little better. This is an example of reasoning. Now, having learned how to fix his mistake, he will know this information for next time and will be able to apply it if the situation occurs again. In this way, he is allowing Jonah to be able to think for himself, both logically and with flexibility. He is also explaining what he saying, so that Jonah will actually understand and absorb the reasoning behind the information....
