Professor Fulton...
Reading Journal 2 Throughout this TED talk by Jennifer Kahn, a scientific journalist, I discovered that she believes that e mbryo-editing eventually will become possibility in the future but it will still require a lot of work. She explains early on in the TED talk that scientific researchers have tried for years to alter the genetics of mosquitoes so they do not carry malaria. Kahn then explains that this did not work very well due to gene drives not being very well established. I can infer that Kahn is well established in the education of gene drives and the science behind them because her credentials include many scientific articles on the effects of embryo-editing published in the NY times and teaches at UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism. I agree with her claim that so far embryo-editing and gene drives are currently not working. However with further scientific knowledge, I hope that this becomes more of a solution for the environment. Many animals and insects for years have carried diseases such as malaria and the plague that have harmed mankind. If editing the genetics of organisms could help save the environment, I believe the future of genetics is getting brighter....
