Practice Macbeth Test Answers (QUOTES) 1) Three witches to themselves before they meet Macbeth to tell him his prophecy. Appearance vs. Reality (What appears as fair to them is foul to humans and vice versus). Character Development (reveals the witches to be very opposite to human ways and opinions). 2) The King to Ross explaining that he will make Macbeth the new Thane of Cawdor, to replace the old one who betrayed him. Develops the plot (the prophecies start to become true). Character development (reveals the king to trust Macbeth and think of him as a friend). 3) Banquo speaking to Macbeth about part of the prophecy coming true. Good vs Evil. Foreshadowing. Fate vs Freewill. 4) Lady Macbeth to herself after reading Macbeth’s letter about the prophecy. Plot Development. Character Development (reveals Lady Macbeth to be very ambitious and to be greedy). Ambition (Lady Macbeth is Ambitious and wants Macbeth to become the king so that she can become the Queen). 5) Lady Macbeth talking to herself about the letter about Macbeth’s prophecy. Ambition (Lady Macbeth is ambitious and wants to be the queen so badly that she is willing to involve herself in the crime by taking the bloody daggers and framing the guards). 8) Macbeth to himself talking about how he thinks that Banquo suspects him of Duncan’s murder and that he should dispose of him. Foreshadowing (foreshadows Macbeth’s actions to have Banquo murdered). Plot Development (Macbeth comes to the conclusion that he will need to have Banquo killed in order to not get caught for his murder). Character Development (Macbeth has let go of less of his humanity and reasonable senses and has now easily resorted to the idea of killing his close friend whereas before he was so hesitant to kill Duncan). 9) Macbeth to himself talking about how Banquo may be dead but that he needs to watch out for Fleance. Foreshadowing (foreshadows a consequence for Fleance escaping his murder). Plot Development (Fleance has escaped his murder, after his father has been murdered and the prophecy that he will be a king can still come true).
