Course Description: The global and local landscapes are continuously changing. Characteristically dynamic and volatile, the ordinary individual has no other alternative but to be equipped with human values, competence and financial skills among others. This growing demands for financial awareness challenges an ordinary individual to possess financial intelligence. “Financial Intelligence” means possessing the ability to make correct money decisions to achieve high yielding financial incomes, and to choose robust financial investments. Mathematics of Investment is a course which will help students to be equipped with financial skills and human values. Moreover, this course will also enable students to be aware of the different financial tools needed in the practice and application of mathematical concepts in finance as well as to increase the students’ competence in the mathematical analysis and computations of financial problems. Learning Outcomes (LOs) Graduate Attributes LO1: Expert Learner

At the end of the course, the students will be able to: Identify various types of Investment Problems Identify what variables are needed and what are not in solving investment problems Realize how important time is in Investment

LO2: Critical and Creative Thinker

   

Derive formulas in solving related problems Express various Investment Problems into equations Interpret investment problems into simpler forms Relate to settings and circumstances that requisites mathematical concepts

LO3: Fluent and Effective Communicator

 

Demonstrate clarity in communicating investment problems Express investment problems, equations and solutions in written or oral form

LO4: Expert Self

 Evaluate the complexity of the investment problem to be solved  Employ the ability to work with other people in solving investment problems

   

Solve problems correctly involving investments Develop critical thinking in making plans and decisions wisely Apply mathematical concepts and ideas in solving investment problems Independently demonstrate formulation and construction of equations and solutions to given investment problem
