January 6, 2013 Dear Selection Committee, My favorite shoes are black with hot pink soles. Allow me to elaborate. L’Oréal specializes in confidence resulting from healthy beauty. By focusing on wellbeing, health, and beauty in all forms, L’Oréal empowers men and women to look and feel their best, thus inspiring confidence. Given my shoe style and L’Oréal’s mission for confidence, I believe I am a good fit for the L’Oréal life. The black side of my shoe represents both the skills I have acquired through my education as well as the work experience and the professional standard I hold myself to in all my endeavors. My fluency in the French language is supported by seven years of French immersion and a month long exchange in Paris. My business education from the University of Toronto’s Rotman Commerce has given me the chance to hone my analytical skills. My summer internship in advertising at Leo Burnett not only gave me a taste of marketing, with a focus on project management, but also allowed me the opportunity to lead several projects for Bell Canada. As a former “Earl’s Girl,” I was also able to contribute to the rebranding process on the Earls account. Most importantly, I learned how to coordinate three distinct sub groups within the holistic team: creative, client, and production. Each sub group was unique in its culture and required tailoring my style of communication to connect effectively with each one. However, my heart and soul lies in the hot pink sole of my shoe and can only be fully understood upon meeting me. This is the creative, confident side of me that runs head first into new challenges, whether it is in sports, performing arts, or volunteerism. From captain of my ringette team to coxswain of the rowing team, my athletics have taught me to have no fear and that anything is possible with the right amount of passion; after playing Rugby as a 100-pound blonde anything seems doable! Pursuing a professional career in TV and musical theatre, while in school, has helped me develop a strong work ethic and exceptional time management skills. Theatre itself has taught me about the importance of a team and the trust that is necessary for a team to realize its full potential. My volunteerism, most recently my role as marketing coordinator at Phoenix Place, a second stage women’s shelter, has given me the opportunity to put what I know in theory into action, and to give back to my community while broadening my world view. Without the confidence to try new things and learn as I go, I would not have had these opportunities. Accordingly, I value the cultivation of beauty in all its forms as a tool for the empowerment that fuels self-confidence. L’Oréal nurtures this process and I need to be a part of that. Thank you for your time and consideration, Megan Anderson...
