Information technology (IT) refers to any computer-based tool that people use to work with information and support the information and information-processing needs of an organization. 2. Software refers to the set of instructions that the hardware executes to carry out specific tasks 3. Central processing unit (CPU) is the actual hardware that interprets and executes the program (software) instructions and coordinates how all the other hardware devices work together 4. Word length refer(s) to the number of bits (0s and 1s) that can be processed by the CPU at any time. 5. When a CPU’s speed is described as 500 hertz, it means that the CPU can run 500 CPU cycles per second. 6. Random access memory (RAM) is the computer’s primary working memory, in which program instructions and data are stored so that they can be accessed directly by the CPU via the processor’s high-speed external data bus.

7. Cache memory is a small unit of ultrafast memory that stores recently accessed or frequently accessed data so that the CPU does not have to retrieve this data from slower memory circuits such as RAM. 8. Reduced instruction set computer (RISC) chip limits the number of instructions the CPU can execute to increase processing speed. 9. A(n) embedded operating system is used in computer appliances and special-purpose applications, such as ATM or iPod, that are used for a single purpose. 10. Spyware removes any software that employs a user’s Internet connection in the background without the user’s knowledge or explicit permission. 11. 20. Sustainable, or “green” MIS describes the production, management, use, and disposal of technology in a way that minimizes damage to the environment.

21. Data center is a facility used to house management information systems and associated components, such as telecommunications and storage systems.

22. Dynamic scaling means that the MIS infrastructure can be automatically scaled up or down based on needed requirements.
