Description

Miss Ana Victoria Jiménez really liked photography and took a liking to photography as an adolescent. In my opinion she was a historian photographer in her own right. Not only did she take photos, but she added descriptions. Telling the Mexican feminist story HERSTORY. She did it for the love for her people for her culture from the heart. The short film states that radical feminist and other aspects of feminism did not always agree or get along. Politics is always very shaky and finnicky and as an artist I can totally understand why many Artist do not get involved on the political side of things. One can be revolutionary through their art without being involved in the politics. CUBA, CUBA, CUBA, oh how I love the history of the Cuban revolution and the revolutionary flame the revolution sparked throughout the Caribbean’s, Latin America, and even parts of America. Cuba was a sign of Hope to overthrow capitalism and imperialism in the western world. The connections built between the PEOPLE in the countries within Latin America and the Caribbean are strong and beautiful to me. It will take the people as a collective not only to overthrow but to work together ethically and equitably as well. In my opinion communism via Soviet Union had its own agenda, Soviet Union comes in as a white savior to people of color countries yet rules still must be done their way under such an ideology. The Soviet Union was even known for systematic “cleansing” of ethnic minority groups. So, division and confusion occurs. “When the big countries failed communism didn’t make sense anymore.” (Victoria) I believe communism can look different depending on the many communities That make up the country.

I loved the stories of both Ms. Victoria and Ms. Graciela, while they had different motivations for why they created, they shared the love for photography and art in general. “Sometimes I have premonition dreams.” (Graciela) Dreams in relation to Art is A connection I can relate to. The Spiritual and the material world intertwine with no boundaries though the medium of art. Mrs. Graciela’s life has been so aligned with her art and her spiritual journey. She truly innerstands intuitively how all of who she is intertwines together. Her Belief is strong and powerful which in return manifests within the physical realm. She’s a very powerful woman. “The birds go on a journey to find God, in the end they find each other.” The story of the “Birds of Death” is very touching & a sense of grieving. I hope she was able to claim her peace with her daughter so death. Consent and permission were very important to her as a photographer. I really really respect that. It speaks volumes about her character and ethics.

Art, Freedom, and Revolution hold beautiful connections amongst one another. The expression of radicalism to obtain freedom for humanity above all. “We were focused on things more real in our lives.” (Ana Victoria in regard to American Feminism). A poetic truth that will forever stick with me. “We didn’t think women should have to exhibit themselves.” (Ana Victoria) Women are our life bearers. We owe women globally everything in my opinion. I see a pattern within humanity, the strongest humans naturally are always the most oppressed groups. There are REASONS to why groups of people of oppress certain groups of people. I truly appreciate Ms. Ana and Graciela for telling their stories, their experiences, expressing their truths and opinions. Such courageous, beautiful, and insightful souls....
