The question that I would like to learn more about is: What is slash and burn agriculture and how does it change a landmass from its original state? Coming from the land of orange trees I was not introduced to the burning of fields until I moved to Georgia 28 years ago. I was clueless as to why these farmers would purposely set fire to their fields, so I actually asked a farmer and he explained that it was in fact beneficial to the future crops that would be planted there. The fact that the early settlers used the same methods made me gravitate toward this article. This topic actually has given me many more questions to ask such as, what crops did the early settlers plant, and is this the same type of agriculture that they practiced where they came from?
