Monty Python and the Holy Grail (1975) Questions

How does the film make fun of chivalry and bravery? Specifically, the depictions of Lancelot and Galahad and Sir Robin. The entire movie Monty Python and the Holy Grail makes fun of King Arthur and his Knight’s quest to find the Holy Grail. A knight is thought to be characterized as an individual who expresses qualities such as manners, loyalty, bravery, and humility. In the movie Sir Galahad’s chivalry is made fun of by the other knights. This occurs when Sir Galahad is seduced by the women and must be pulled away. It was thought to be that he was not meeting the standards or qualities of what a knight should be. King Arthur’s bravery was made fun of when he and his knights often ran away from a battle. He was made fun of for this because the so called perfect man was supposed to be strong, a skilled horseman, and an expert warrior. How does the film make fun of religion/Christianity? The film makes fun of religion/Christianity throughout the entire film. It does this by making scenes that should be more serious into a joke and adding mockery into it. One example of this was Monks was when they were smacking their heads on boards to the chant. In the film this comes off as an insult and perhaps displaying stubbornness of the Church. How is Camelot presented? When the knights reached Camelot, they began to break out in song and dance. I felt as though the Camelot scene was presented in a more humorous manner than it would have been. I feel as though King Arthur is not one to take things seriously and had made this quest into a joke to take the tension or seriousness that it may normally portray. Is the King Arthur presented in the film the great hero of myth and legend or is he just a homicidal loony? Why/Why not? I think that King Arthur would be a loony because throughout the movie he doesn’t portray a sense of seriousness. I felt as though he had done a lot of mockery when there should have been more serious scene. An example of this would be when King Arthur and the knights traveled to Camelot. Once they had arrived they had brought out in song and dance. Once this ended King Arthur had said that they would continue the journey instead. I took this as King Arthur as not being able to take anything serious and one to push things off as a joke rather than take things seriously....
