Description

Monty DeGraff Paige Bowers Another article written by Debra Kaufman was presented this week and specifically on the highly sought after Monty DeGraff. Editing for years and years in the industry and on some of the most well known classics. Editing shows like Star Trek, Melrose Place, Law & Order, Daredevil, and so on. He says what he wanted as an editor was to cut many different styles and many different shows and that's exactly what he did. He worked and is still working on a wide range of productions and genres. In addition to that, he is very eager to mentor people. It's an important thing to him and he loves teaching other aspiring editors. His first was an AfricanAmerican girl who he found to be very talented, very hard working and persistent to have gotten as far as she had. In a cut throat world she rose beautifully and displayed talent. He is fond of the people he teaches and goes on to say how important it is to teach and help others because when he describes his rise it makes sense why he would spend so much time making sure he taught others.. To starting low and making his way up. Editing things here and there and flitting back and forth between being a leader and an assistant editor. Life was taking him all different directions and for all different reasons. However, al though he was growing and making his way up, he never really had anyone to owe his success too. Unlink the close relationship film directors get with their editors, TV editors are often hired separately from the director so no close bond forms. No one teaches you new things and mentors and helps you, so he had to learn it all on his own in a fast paced television environment. So he wants to teach others where he never got the lessons and examples presented to him. In addition to them learning from him, he says he learns from his assistants. New ways to use avid and shortcuts and smart perspectives that he never would 've otherwise noticed. Its deepened his process and has made him a better editor

whilst making other people better editors. Monty DeGraff is also a very prograssive mentor when it comes to finding assistants. He said he won't turn people down but when selecting apprentices he is always on the lookout for women or people of color. He is aware of the problems there are in the industry with the lack of women and colored people so he is striving to fix them. Let the industry become more inclusive and fight against the tide that once only had as little as 7 colored people in it. He is a great man both in and out and really wants to make the industry better in the future with both great teaching and social strides toward a more inclusive strand of cinema....
