Description

Directions: 1.

Carefully analyze, clearly identify and thoroughly discuss the central moral dimensions of the case. 2. Clearly and systematically identify your main position/argument about ethical issue. 3. Clearly indicate your awareness and thoughtful consideration of different viewpoints, including especially those that would loom large in the reasoning of individuals who disagree with your position. As I read and understand in the point or in the stand of Andre and Leslie that they want their child to be deaf like them. For my own position or argument about this ethical issue, I contradict their decision. Being a person with a disability or specifically being deaf is difficult to live in this world because it doesn't just affect hearing, it has an impact on general communication skills too. This is largely because people who are deaf or difficult of hearing have often had a lot less exposure to language and vocabulary throughout their lives. They did not choose their lives to be difficult like that but there is still a chance that their child will not be deaf. Most of the parents want their children to grow and live without disability. Let their child enjoy the kind of life that there is not difficultness or not being deaf because one day when their child will grow. The special thing in that situation is that their child will help them to have them improve their skills in communicating to other people their will be no problem in their lives because their sacrifices and efforts while guiding their child to grow will have positive result and will be worth it. Andre and Leslie wanted their child to be deaf like them. There is a possibility that this is a good and bad thing that they will choose when their child is deaf like them. I think for them it's good but for the whole world this is not right thing to do. There are positive and negative effects that can happen to their child when they do that. The genes and their belief that being deaf is good like them everyone can live freely without compromising others, even your child. The main arguments for this is you want your child to be deaf and like the parents. Everyone wants to be good parents to their child but by making this decision the life of your child can be changed and she/he can be bullied in the future in this time. Everyone can have their own opinion about this topic but for me this is a bad thing to do and let your child live freely without any disabilities because you can teach your child sign language even if he/she has no disabilities. In this case, the central moral dimension of the case is whether it is right or wrong for the parents to want their child to be deaf like them. Different viewpoints may rise from it like some would say that it is right for them to come up with this decision because they think that the parents know what is best for their child. While others may also argue that it is wrong for them to decide what their child would be because they are compromising their children’s future in that way. For me, my main position for this case is that it is totally wrong for them to engineer their child in a way that they will give him a disability. I can understand that they are doing that because they want their child to grow, immersed in the Deaf culture, who understands the experience of Deafness, and who communicates via sign language, but their child can definitely do it without being deaf. The parents will be able to immerse their child in their culture while the child being completely healthy by teaching their child properly and by good parenting. I personally do not think that they can decide what they want for their child. They can let their child born normally, and if ever the child wants to be deaf, then that will be the time that the parents can have what

they want. If born normal, the child can be deaf in the future if he wants, but if born deaf, the child might not be able to hear for the rest of his life even if he wants to. This is why the right thing to do is to let the child be born normally or not be born at all if his future will just be compromised without knowing what the child really wants....
