More Than Two Genders All Over The World! Africa 1. Mino (Benin): In the Kingdom of Dahomey, they have all-female warriors. They aren’t married nor do they have any children. Thought to have the traits of aggressiveness or masculinity 2. Bangala (DR Congo): Before the European colonists, Bangala people would dress in women’s clothing. By doing so, it allowed them to gain the ability to solve crimes such as murder. The reason for doing so is that they are carried by beliefs. 3. Ankole (Uganda): Before what we know today as being Uganda, it was called Ankole. Ankole people elected a woman to be dressed as a man. By their dressing; they now become the oracle to the god Mukasa. 4. Mashoga (Kenya, Tanzania): Mashoga is defined as a wide variety of people on the gender continuum. It usually indicates gay men as they adopt the female gender early on in life. They wear both men and women clothing plus serve a crucial role in wedding ceremonies 5. Ashtime (Maale, Ethiopia): Historically, they are referred to as people who live in homes of powerful and spiritual people which biological women couldn’t enter. With more and more discoveries, they found out that gender non-conforming male, including unmarried or disabled men who aren’t able to carry out traditional male roles. The discovery of non-conforming men comes from back in the 1970s. Americas 1. Alyha and Hwame (Mohave): The Mohave tribe was created during a time when humans were not sexually and gender differentiated. It was created as a myth. In their tribe, four genders are recognized which included men, women, hwame (male-indentified females) and alyha (female-identified males.) 2. Lhamma (Zuni): A two-spirit tradition where a person lives two genders simultaneously. They are a part of the society in many key ways such as mediators, priests, and artists. An example of someone who inherits all these traits is We’wha, a biological man who served as the Zuni ambassador which had no idea that she wasn’t born female. 3. Nadleehi and Dilbaa (Navajo): Nadleehi refers to the tradition of a third gender which a biologically male-born person embodies both the masculine and feminie spirit. On the other hand, Dilbaa is a female-born person with more masculine spirits. Both considerably encompass both genders in one person. Asia 1. Kathoey (Thailand): Kathoey is translated loosely as lady-boys are born male but have a female heart and also referred to as “sago” which is a second type of woman. The culture encompasses lots of people including drag queens, cross-dessers, effemiate gay males, and post-operative transexuals. True tradition says that they are neither male or female but instead the space in between. 2. Bakla (Philippines): Bakla includes an array of sexual and gender identities but especially one who is male born and dresses, mannerism, and social roles of a woman. They have been recognized as a third gender for a long time which outside influences has changed them. Interestingly enough, they have also

developed their own language called Swardspeak which is a mixture of Fillipino, English, and Spanish....
