Mumbai Case Study Where migrants are coming from Nearly ¾ of migrants have come from Maharashtra state. (Rural to Urban migration). Mostly young men are migrants.
Where migrants are ending up in Mumbai Living in shanty houses in slums. Most famous being Dharavi.

Solutions Top-down management, for example Slum Rehabilitation Facility re-homes people in slums making people eligible for adequate housing in Mumbai. This can implement great change. However a negative to this is that communities can be broken up and people are far from their workplace. Bottom-up approach, the Incremental Housing Project for example. People who live in slums are given ownership of the land their homes are built upon. Also, the whole community pays for communal areas which make the area cleaner and suitable for living without losing their sense of community. However, not everything can be guided by the community as they can lack knowledge and financial resources for a better sewage system for example.
Top-down approaches are better: Provides better education and resources. Slum Sanitation Program has installed 300 community toilet blocks and educates people about good hygiene....
