Nappy changing – Nursery setting Case study activity
Please read the following case study scenario and decide carefully how you would resolve the situation. Refer to the following questions at the bottom of the page. Case study scenario The practitioners in the nursery setting regularly changes the babies nappies and one of the practitioner’s changes a young baby Emily’s nappy. Before the practitioner changes Emily’s nappy she washes her hands, cleans the changing mat thoroughly and prepares a clean nappy and nappy bag. The practitioner puts on a disposable apron and gloves and then changes Emily’s nappy. The practitioner then disposes of Emily’s nappy by putting it in a nappy bag and putting it in the nappy disposable bin and disposes of her gloves and apron. The practitioner disinfects the changing mat; cleans the nappy changing sinks with bleach; washing her hands. Questions 1.) Why does the practitioner wash her hands and clean the changing mat before changing Emily’s nappy?
2.) What is the reason behind the practitioner disposing of the nappy in the nappy changing bin instead of the waste bin in the setting?
