Description

Carmen Falzone 02/05/2021 Chapter 1: “The First Week” Narrative Notes What I understand this to be saying is to come up with a great research paper, you must use certain strategies to dive deeper into a topic for your paper. Developing a good research question requires time and effort by using specific strategies too. Also, understanding your topic very well is crucial, and understanding a research proposal and applying it to your topic is very important too. You must “get curious” about what your topic is, be willing to dig deep for very specific researchable questions and thinking outside of the box in the context of your topic. Use multiple ways to search for a topic which are things like using the internet, using a school’s database, reading, collaborating, and more. You want to come up with a specific question also by starting with general information, then moving into more specialized information (scholarly articles, research papers, etc.). Also, to do this you may want to see the bigger picture, then narrowing it down to a smaller picture or a smaller focus. You can do this by examining a time, place, person, or a story. You’ll also want to decide whether you are writing your paper to explore your topic, or to have a certain stance and have an argument on your topic. A topic that really moved me was how you should really get curious about your topic, and how you should read a lot about it before beginning real research. When I began reading this, I thought that as long as you have general information about your topic, you will be alright, and now I think you should really dig deep and analyze your topic as much as possible so that you can know as much as possible prior to doing research. Also, I thought that as long as it is a topic you enjoy it will be enjoyable to research, and now I think that you really need to be invested

into your topic and really want to know and find more information because the more into it you are, the better the paper will be. I think that this topic could apply to any aspect of my education at UML. I want to be a music educator, and to really become a successful educator of music someday, I will need many hours of learning, researching, playing, and experience of teaching in order to be as effective as possible. I am invested and very passionate in it, so just like when writing a research paper, you must “be curious” about it. Research is very useful at any time you are unsure of something. If it is a simple question you are trying to find an answer to, most of the time Google will be able to provide you that answer very quickly. If your question is more in depth, you will want to get good sources and read a great number of articles on it to get the most knowledge possible. Reading up on my lesson plans someday will be very useful so that I can execute a lesson with nothing but grace and passion. I will be able to deliver a great lesson better that way if I go ahead and prepare. This is true for all of my college experience as well. If you prepare efficiently, reading the right sources and being diligent in research and studying, your outcome will be that much greater....
