Description

The Walt Disney Company likes to be prepared for all sorts of natural disasters and unforeseen circumstances. In the past, Disney has teamed up with the Red Cross for National Preparedness Month to share important tips and information on how to stay safe if a disaster occurs. The Walt Disney Company also supports and funds multiple Red Cross initiatives, such as The Pillowcase Project. Disney VoluntEARS are committed to helping the Red Cross during disaster-relief operations. The Walt Disney Company has a resort emergency guide for every resort property. Each resort has 24 hours a day 7 days a week security coverage and designated evacuation areas. If an emergency takes place at a resort, guests will be directed in accordance with the Walt Disney World Resort Emergency Plans. Verbal instructions may be given from a resort cast member or resort security or a letter will be delivered to the room from the Resort General manager. Another option is a voicemail on the resort room phone. The type of communication depends on the type of emergency. In the event of an evacuation, resort cast members will be deployed to direct guest movement into a designated zone until the emergency has resolved. Resort room evacuation plans are posted on the back of each resort room to guide guests to the appropriate exit. There are 4 Reedy Creek emergency response fire stations located across Walt Disney World Resort property. The theme parks each have their own emergency action plan for evacuations and natural disasters. Both theme parks and resorts are stocked with emergency medical supplies. I first hand participated in the Walt Disney Company’s emergency plan for hurricanes. Cast members have the option to sign up for Hurricane Ride Out. You basically volunteer to come into work a day or so before the storm & help shut down the resort or park. You then go to one of the resorts and help come up with ways to keep guests entertained. I helped prep good bags/activity bags for the rooms and helped tie down all umbrellas on the pool deck. Once the storm is close, you stay in a resort room until it is safe again. Once the storm has passed, you do damage control and clean up the mess of leaves and branches outside. I got to clean the pools and run a little carnival style booth for guests after the storm had passed. Employees who participate in this get to be on the clock the entire time and for someone who doesn't have to worry about taking care of family or prepping their own home, it makes a lot of sense to volunteer. I felt much safer at work during the storm then I would have been home alone in my apartment. https://thewaltdisneycompany.com/disney-and-red-cross-team-up-for-national-preparednessmonth/ http://nsnaconvention.weebly.com/uploads/2/2/4/5/22459246/walt_disney_world_emergency_gu ide.pdf...
