The nurse should tell the client that going to a shelter should be an option only when necessarily. Special needs shelters require annual registration through county emergency management and clients need to be aware that completing the registry does not automatically qualify somebody for a special needs shelter especially if the county where they reside does not have the necessary resources specific to that individual. Some examples of clients who qualify for special needs shelters are oxygen dependent patients, dialysis patients, etc. 5. What should a nurse tell a client about medications in the event of a pending hurricane or disaster? The nurse should tell the client to have extra supply of medication. The client needs to make sure the medication is not expired. The nurse should recommend that clients keep a list of all prescription medications, dosages, and any other special instructions in their emergency medication supply.

6. What is a Compact Healthcare document? Where should the client store the document during a hurricane/disaster? A compact healthcare document is a formal written document that contains important information which helps to enhance the communication between primary doctors and specialists. Therefore, they are fundamental in order to stablish a patient centered care. The client should store critical documents in a waterproof container as well as saving an electronic copy.
