Pterygomandibular space...

Description

Pterygomandibular Space Pterygopalatine Fossa Portion of infratemporal space between A cone (pyramid) shaped paired medial pterygoid m. and ramus of the depression, deep to the mandible. infratemporal fossa. Important  site of IAN block (Inferior Located between the infratemporal Alveolar Nerve) surface of Mx and the pterygoid process of sphenoid bone. Pterygopalatine fossa represents a communication between infratemporal, middle cranial fossa, nasopharynx, nasal, orbital and oral cavity. Border: Border:  Anterior  infratemporal  Medial  medial pterygoid m. surface of Mx  Lateral  medial surface of the MD ramus  Posterior  pterygoid process  Superior  lower head of the lateral pterygoid m.  Medial  perpendicular plate of palatine  Inferior  attachment of the medial pterygoid m. to Md angle  Lateral  pterygomaxillary fissure  Posterior  parotid angle  Superior  inferior surface of  Anterior  oral mucosa, Post. part of sphenoid, orbital process of buccinator m./ pterygomandibular raphe palatine (fold)  Inferior  pyramidal process These borders shape a triangular prism of palatine Contents: Contents:  Pterygopalatine ganglion  Branches of mandibular nerve maxillary n. branches Inferior alveolar nerve  from the Infraorbital n. posterior division of Md n. Innervates all Posterior superior alveolar n. the mandibular teeth on one side and the Zygomatic n. buccal gingiva from the premolars to the Ganglionic branches midline.  Maxillary a. and branches of Lingual nerve  from the posterior the 3rd part division. Sensory innervation for the Infraorbital a. anterior 2/3 of the tongue, mucosa of the Sphenopalatine a. flow of the mouth and lingual gingiva of all Descending palatine a. teeth until midline. Pharyngeal a. Buccal nerve  from the anterior division A. of the pterygoid canal of Md n. Innervates the mucus membrane  Pterygoid plexus of veins and of the cheek and buccal gingiva of Md its tributaries molars. Posterior superior alveolar v. Mylohyoid nerve  the only motor Pharyngeal v. branch from the post. division. Innervates Descending palatine v. mylohyoid m. and anterior belly of Infraorbital v. digastric m. V. of the pterygoid canal  Maxillary a. and the branches Middle meningeal a.  Inferior ophthalmic canal
