Madison Kelley 11-20-19 OCEAN Lesson 10

Ocean of many Personalities Participant ● Participant: Mother, female, 42 years’ old Procedures I chose someone who I personally know well and knows me very well. My participant is my mother because we are very close. I then explained the procedure to my mother. I printed out two copies of OCEAN rating form and made sure she knew that we couldn’t show each other our ratings. I then told my participant to be as honest as possible so I could achieve the most accurate results. As seen in table 1, I generally rated myself high on Agreeableness. For Extroversion and openness my participant rated me high, while I rated myself lower. The one we both agreed on perfectly was 1

Agreeableness both rating 7, the others we differed on slightly. Although Extroversion we rated very different, I rated 3 while my participant gave me a rating of 8. Discussion For the most part both my participants and I’s ratings were fairly similar with a few exceptions. I don’t think of myself as very extroverted which explains our difference in opinions for extroversion. I think my mother was more accurate in her ratings than me because she put her emotions and feelings to the side and gave me a very honest rating. This exercise really got me thinking about my conscientiousness because of my mother’s low rating on it. It also made me really think about all my personality traits. Seeing how my mother rated me helped me realize that I can definitely work on my traits and improve them to my liking. Implications I personally think the Big Five was for the most part accurate. Although extroversion isn’t a major part of me and I tend to be more introverted. Introverts lose energy in social gatherings while extroverts gain energy from social gatherings. I often find social gathering boring and honestly really tiring.
